"Forks not Bent" .At least that's what the seller says. What do you guys think??

looks kinda bent...
|
Lens barrel distortion perhaps .. the head tube looks like it has a curve also.

It does seem like some visual distortion. But if that was the case, why doesn't the seller post a better pic?
|
I'd believe 'em. He seems to at least know something about what he is selling, and has good feedback.
But I will say that he should have retaken the pictures before he put them up on his listing. I would have. |
The blades were brazed so that the tubing tapers to the blade's centerline; in which case, the front surface of the blade will bend inwards, and the rear will bend outwards. Neither edge will run parallel with the headtube. This effect is amplified on forks that have crowns that don't have a raised shoreline, such as these.
French builders were quite adept at worsening this effect by brazing their blades so that the rear surface of the blade would run parallel with the headtube, making both the tube's centerline and front taper angle rearwards of the headtube line. Yech. Most of the "bent fork!"-crying fools on this forum couldn't look at most constructeur frames without saying it. -Kurt |
The seller explains the visual distortion and assures that it is not bent. He has 100% feedback with over 800 transactions. What more do you need?
That is a clean machine. I like it. |
The Comp II was marketed as having the unique combination of an ultra-compact wheelbase and "12 full inches of trail for rock-solid stability at speed." Of course, it flopped because no one was able to get it up to 20mph before wiping out.
|
As a photographer, I'm quite sure it's not bent. It's pin cushion distortion from a poorly corrected zoom lens at it's widest setting and is most evident when there are straight horizontal and vertical lines near the edges of the image rectangle. You can see the same distortion in the top tube, seat stays and the table edge at bottom right.

Yep It's my size too, That's why I was looking at it. I'm not an expert at looking at defects. I also looked at the sellers ratings, really positive. Now I've ruined any chance of getting it at a low price.... Mike |

I love that frame, BTW. Just my size, too - mwahahahahaaaaaaaa ;) Perfect candidate for a Superbe Pro build. |

I'm going to look at this frameset which is available from a local seller who is making it available to me, an nobody else, so don't get any funny ideas... |
I always bend my forks, it makes the bike more responsive.....
|
P.S.: In addition the comments I already made about the fork, it doesn't help when the lens has a mild fish-eye to it.

+1 to all comments about lens distortion, possibly a fisheye style lens being used.
|
If it is bent, then so is the head tube. Distortion resulting from using a wide angle lens.

Look at the top tube in the seller's photo. Bulged upwards. Headtube? Bulged forward. Seat tube is bulged to the left. It's distortion. End of story. -Kurt |
Top tube is bent as well.......
