Help Figuring Out What This Is!
2 Attachment(s)
Hey everyone, I'm new to biking and so know next to nothing. Anyways, I've been trying to get my girlfriend a bike for awhile now and found this one that she really likes on craigslist for $135. The only information I got from the seller was that it was bought in England in 1986 and is a Peugeot and will probably need new tires. Just take a look at the picture and tell me what you can about the bike, and if it's worth the money. Also, he said the previous rider was 5'2" which is great since my GF is also 5'2" but he also said he thinks it's 27". I'm not sure what he was measuring, but is that to big for a person that is 5'2"?

So yea, let me know what you think, thanks... |
I don't know about the value but I imagine the 27" mentioned is the tire size and not the frame size. Your GF should fit the bike OK.

Whatever it is it's très cool! Looks like it's in good shape with all accessories intact - doesn't seem like a bad price to me (it'd sell for at least that in my local market.)
Peugeots often have a sticker/label on the underside of the bottom bracket that lists the model and frame size; flip the bike over and see if it's still there (if it ever was - my early-80s UE-18 has one.) |
I say get it. It's a nice looking bike and I can see why your girlfriend likes it.
Be aware though, it's French. French bikes are different. Not different in a bad way though, just different. |
I know - I KNOW - Exactly what this is... Its a very nice bike... And well worth the time and investment...

Be aware that if the person you are getting this for is used to a traditional step-through frame the top bar on that mixte will be considerably higher. The standover might be a bit much for such a person at 5'2" and be more like what a male riding a sized diamond-framed bike would be comfortable with. If they need to have the seat all the way down riding in a skirt or dress might not be very handy.

a pink, french mixte, with full fenders, rear rack and bottle generator w/headlamp. In my neck of the woods it would be gone in a heartbeat at that price. That said its not a high end bike but its definitely not junk ether and should make a great casual rider. as far as fit go's it looks to me like its about the biggest frame someone 5'2" could ride, she should test ride it first, or just buy it for her and if it dosent fit sell it for what you bought it for.

Yea I think I'm gonna go pick it up tomorrow. And if it doesnt fit I'll do like another member said and sell it... or give it to my mom, although she likes her moped more, lol...
