VeloBase.com Version 2.7.4 Release
 

The first of two significant releases for VeloBase.com went live this morning. I have been doing a major overhaul on the collection List pages and finally got all of the lists other than the main Component List completed. These changes bring faster list page changes, a unified and extended feature set to all of the list pages, and less server side code for me to maintain going forward.

The next major release will be when I move all of these code changes over to the Component List page as well, which I hope to have time to complete in the next few weeks. First however I need to make sure that there are no lingering glitches in this new code (and please let me know if you experience any odd behavior on the site) - as well as getting the VeloBase.com Jersey design finalized and orders started.

I remember your initial thoughts and ideas regarding a cycling website that gathered information and shared that information. What a wonderful idea but I thought it was a huge undertaking that would be too difficult to get off the ground.

Boy was I wrong! And, it is far better than what I could have imagined.

I obviously didn't understand just what a determined and talented person that you are.

VeloBase is simply fantastic and such a valuable resource - THANKYOU VERY MUCH.

Thanks Gary. I remember those early days too. Somewhere in the back of my mind I thought "it would be cool if I could get the list up to 500 or so components, that would be an accomplishment." Today we're just shy of 4000, and if I got around to processing my backlog of completed eBay auctions I'd probably get there.

I would like to say thanks to all of the visitors, members, contributors and supporters of the site since it's humble beginnings in 2007. I certainly didn't do it all by myself. I may have been the man behind the code, but it's the visitors and those who have contributed in one way or another to the site that has kept the development going. I'm still not satisfied with some areas of the site, still more areas to improve, some old areas that are in much need of some reworking now that I'm smarter than I was in 2007, others that are newer but I'm still not happy with the results. One day I may say the code development process for VeloBase is complete and all there's left is to fill in the gaps in the data, but that's not today. I should have the Component List (and Gallery List) upgraded by early next week if not sooner. After that I can sit back for a little bit and develop a game plan for the next phase of development.

As always, my inbox is always open to ideas, suggestions, and telling me where I managed to break something while fixing something else. :thumb:

Ya know how I was saying I was hoping to get that whole Component List thing done by early next week? Well ya, it's kinda done and out there now. :thumb:

Now I'm going home to enjoy the rest of my birthday! :D
