Faster than I am, if our ride in Austin was any indicator.

Thanks C&V. Turning 30 this year, hoping to get out for a short spin around the neighborhood tonight while Margaret is working on dinner so I can at least say I rode on my bday, but the 30+ mi will have to wait till another day. Looks like I will be leading/co-leading my usual club ride this weekend, plan to take the Gazelle AB-Frame to pull along all the rest of the crew with their alum and carbon rigs.

Happy birthday, Jon! Mine is in another 10 days, and it is my plan to ride my age that day (plus a bit).

Last weekend's weather was a gift after all the snow North Texas got over the winter. Two of my least favorite stretches of road, that are usually long false-flats into a head or at best cross wind, both offered a light tail winds that day - and both of those I was on the front of the train of 20+ riders rolling along at a steady clip riding my Serotta. After the ride I looked at my Garmin data and showed the first of those, the last 3mi stretch into the rest stop, I started out rolling at 18 but was pushing 22 by the time we got back into town where we stopped. At the end of the day we had a 17.3 avg - for a ride that typically runs 16ish for an average. I don't expect the winds to be quite so cooperative this weekend, but all the same, I expect to be on the front a good length of the way.

Wow, you're only 30? I've got a long way to go in catching up on bike know-how. Happy birthday!

Wish we could've met up while you were in town for NAHBS. Maybe next year.

Thanks all for the birthday wishes, from near and far. Yesterday was a great birthday, my loving wife surprised me with not only a fantastic dinner (4 course meal including seafood risotto as the main dish) but also invited a few close friends over for a mini surprise party. And here's a little hint at what my birthday gift to myself is going to be (when I get it sometime near my 31st bday)

Getting the right birthday present is easy especially when you give it to yourself.

Looks to be something quite special from your teaser photo.
