C&V-style, super-cheap "saddlebag" find!

I was passing by the store H&M today when I saw in the window a small bag that looked surprisingly decent, especially for being from H&M. When I went in and inspected, the bag was $9.95 and had perfect straps of leather for saddle loops. It came in several "classic" colors, including navy, army green, blue/white striped, and off-white (which is what I got). It has easy in-and-out access with a hidden magnetic clasp.

When I got home, I was very pleased to find that this little "purse" actually functions perfectly as a saddle bag, and negated the need for me to purchase one of the more expensive, equally attractive options I've been eyeing online. So if you're local to an H&M, go pick one up! Can't be beat for $10.

It's a megastore of cheap clothes and accessories- usually total garbage, but I was surprised today!

If you'd like me to pick one up and mail it to you, I'd be happy to! Feel free to PM me and we can work something out. There's an H&M every two blocks in this damn city.

Edit: I might not be able to respond to PMs yet, due to low postcount, I can't remember. My email is maggiedotcom@gmail.com- that might work better!

Awesome find! If I am near one I might stop by and take a look.
Canvas and fake leather, I assume?

Canvas and if it's leather, it's very CHEAP leather. But it looks good, and matches my honey Brooks just right

Now I just need to spend $365 and get this beaut to match on front:

That's an awesome looking bag! I may have to email you on that...how'd the other colors look? The army green intrigued me.

I'll head into an H&M tomorrow and take pictures of what options they have, and I'll update this thread afterwards!

Don't expect it to last long. Although at that price lasting one season is still a good deal, just dont put your most expensive valuables in it.
H&M clothing is made to be the cheap clothing that you wear out anyways, I wouldnt shop there anyways, but having just had one move into PDX I have heard a lot of people raving about how affordable everything is, and admitting that it was pretty poor quality.

Oh, I have no misconceptions about the quality. I know H&M well, and I know that cheap construction is their thing. But for $10, I can't be too concerned! This is just an excellent little bag for me to throw my wallet/keys/phone/lock into when I need to get out the door in a jiffy.

Nice find! There are a few H&M stores in Massachusetts, if I go near one of them I may have to check that out. The green one sounds interesting.

Hahahahahahaaaaaa! THIS IS MY PURSE! Hilaaarious!

I can't believe I never mentioned this here, I bought this purse at least a month ago with the same idea!
It dirties up pretty easily it seems, the backside has grayed from rubbing on my pants probably. I'm going to try washing it soon.
Haven't used it as a saddle bag for a trip yet, the straps don't fit through the bag loops on a brooks. Did you mount yours on the rails?
I'm thinking of attaching some sort of strap on the back to secure it to the seat post.
Also, the leatherette loops don't exactly have anything to hold themselves in. I picked up some cheep silver barrettes from Clair's and took the doodads off. I clamp them on the strap right below where it comes out of the bottom opening. They seem to help hold pretty well and they're nice and inconspicuous.
As for all your guy's comments on quality, I mean H&M is no Coach, but I've had a lot of items of clothing from them and none of them have ever fallen apart on me. It's cheeper material, but I appreciate H&M for there actual consideration of structure and sewing. You want actual cheep, go to Charlotte Ruse or something.

The straps actually do fit through the loops on my Brooks- perfectly, like they were MADE for that reason. I thought so when I saw the loops in the store and when I got home, I confirmed! Here, I took a photo:

They fit nice and super-securely.

Ah sweet! I'll try it out after work then! My brooks may be a little odd, but if your's fit I don't see why mine wont! I'll be sure to take some photos so you see that it can look like after a month's worth of every day beating.
Considering H&M is a Swedish company, and the greater popularity of bicycling in Europe, plus how "in vouge" bicycling was becoming last summer, I wouldn't be surprised if H&M had designed this bag with exactly this intent.

Yeah, try it out- my Brooks is new, but I doubt the bag loops are too different!

I was just looking at motorcycle bags to see if I could find one that would look good on a bicycle. You can find motorcycle tool bags made of leather for $20-$40, much cheaper than similar bicycle bags.

I thought it looked good so I got one. My wife (who knows what it is), thinks it looks like a purse on my bike.

I think once it gets worn in a bit, and is less bright creme-colored, it'll look a lot more saddlebaggy and less pursey
