More Dura Ace 8 speed compatability shananigans...

SO...

I'm using 9 speed (7700) shifters with an 8 speed (7402) rear derailleur and matching 8 speed dura ace cassette. Everything shifts great, but I'm desiring one more gear and thinking of trying out a 9 speed cassette. My question for you C+Ver's...

Will the DA 7402 RD properly shift a 9 speed cassette?

You are lucky that combination works. If you want 9 speed you'll need the 9 speed cassette of course, a 9sp chain, DA 9 or 10 speed mech, or any other shimano 8, 9, or 10 speed rear mech.

Not luck, design.

Shimano 10 speed + Dura Ace 8 speed mech is close to Shimano 9 speed.

Ahh okay, so I should be able to use a 10 speed cassette with my shifter/RD combo, but just use 9 of the 10 speeds. Could I just remove one of the cogs and replace with spacers?
