First CL bike purchase/ how to arrange shipping & please seller

Ok so I found a bike I really like on CL and want to buy it. Its not local. How do I make it super easy for the guy to ship it to me. I'm thinking ask him to bring it to an LBS where I will call and pay for packing and shipping by cc via phone? I figure Ill offer him an extra $25 for having to do this. Think that's fair?

Also whats the best way to pay for the bike? Post office Money order?

Thanks in advance

How far apart are you?
He can have a bike shop pack it, but hopefully they do a good job. They'd probably charge money to do it too.
The shipping could go from 50 to 100 if the box they use is an inch too long in one direction.
Paypal is easiest but they do take a cut so I'd offer to cover that as well.
Are you getting a good deal? Did you get high res pics?

Good luck

Follow khatfull's advice and seek out a facilitator from with form members. I have done this, as have many others, and it is the safest way to go, in my opinion.

$25.00 to pack a bike up. Have a look at this and tell me you would do it for $25.00. It takes hours to do a good packing job. And the comments on shipping are bang on. Expect to pay lots, these days.

Also, if we are talking about a costly bike, you better make sure the person packing it does a good job. A bike shop might but a forum member would probably do much better.

Thanks for the advice. I sent a PM to a member here. I wasn't thinking $25 to pack the bicycle, I was thinking of offering the seller an extra 25 for just bringing it to an LBS to have it done. I figure if I was local all he would have to do is sit and wait for me to arrive with cash so I'd pay him for the extra trouble.

This is dumb: trying to get this bike feels like I'm trying to get my first date lol.

The last bike I got shipped from CL seller took it to a bike shop and they charged me 80.00 to pack and ship. It wasn't the greatest pack job, but it made it w/ no damage. It was basically taken apart dropped into a bike box with a piece of cardboard protecting the frame from the wheels, some bubble wrap here and there. I was happy it arrive unscathed.

If the seller is willing to take it to have it shipped offer the extra money or look into a shipper such as Ship Bikes They are an advertiser here btw.
