Did I just have an ebay/impulse fail???
So, I was poking around on ebay looking for a Shimano 600 set of derailleurs and shifters. Got some Arabesque shifters, but the derailleurs.......well......the rear is a 600, but what I did not notice until after I bought them was that the FD says Shimano 60.......NOT 600! Ooops.....
Fail???

Fail???

I hope this was a cheap lesson - some are very expensive.

No biggie...you just need to grab a 600 Arabesque FD...as long as you got the other parts for cheap!...???
The FDs usually go for $15-25...maybe $5 if you can find one in a bin at a co-op.

I did the same, exact thing when I went looking for a 600 kit for a build I was working on a year or two back. Didn't read closely enough, got excited, and bought me a Shimano 60. It's still sitting in a box in the studio!

Wasn't too bad.......like $40 w/shipping. But, enough so that I'm financially debilitated for the moment. If I hadn't been so "finger twitchy", I could atleast have a genuine Arab' FD for less than what I paid for this set.
I doubt I'd ever be able to find one/any at the recyclery...haha! Those guys pick'em clean of the good stuff before any patron has a chance at it. Besides, it's not really a co-op here. They just recycle the stuff. IOW's, if it's worth building something with, you'll definitely pay good money for it. If it's just standard or cheap stuff, they will barter or sell cheap. Meh....I don't blame them for the way they run it. They get no support otherwise except donated parts/bikes.
Hmmm......well, I suppose the parts I bought are good enough for a good bike for someone who's not all that particular. In fact, I'll probably just use them to build a pretty decent flipper. But, it's not at all what I thought I was getting. That's the stomach churning part.
Don't need to fill any more space in that box, do you? I mean, what good is a partially filled box? It's like "incomplete" and all. A nice, full box of junk is soooooo much more impressive....lol!

Um....wait a sec. So, what does this mean? The RD I just got is an actual 600 series like the Arabesque/Dura Ace type stuff? Or, is it more like the 400 series on bike boom type stuff? Like this Nishiki step through with front freewheel system. It has DC centerpulls, but 400 series derailleurs, steel wheels, steel crank, etc. Bike boom bike. What I was wanting was the real deal to finish out my Lotus. ????

I think 60 is only one level below Dura.

You're kidding. Really? Hmmm........decisions. I really wanted 600. <<<thinking cap on>>>
But, about the rear.......is that Dura Ace level 600? I just don't know enough about Shimano parts save the bits I've read from Sheldon's site. I guess it's time to read some more....

Try to sell it on its own and get that cost back, then go buy what you want. Or you can contact Ebay and say the post misrepresented the product and they'll make the seller take it back or get sanctioned.

Actually, I guess I didn't fair too bad. Still not quite what I was wanting, but I've been doing a little web hopping and see some fairly nice bikes equipped with the same set. So, I guess the RD, atleast, IS actually 600 stuff. And, the FD's pretty good.
I could try and resell the set, but I don't know. I'm just going to build a bicycle for my twin sister, I do believe. She's been wanting one for the summer to get into shape/lose some weight. A good working set of derailleurs, Shimano Tourney centerpulls, Shimano thumbies, Araya wheelset, all on a Raleigh Record step through........repainted Canary yellow. She likes yellow.
Well, to console myself....hehe, I bit my lip and pulled out of my savings. I have an Arab' RD on the way. An auction for a matching FD is pending. I'll be watching and waiting. I can make it up, I figure, by selling a rebuilt mixte in the next month or so.
So, I'll have what I really wanted and, as well, my sister will have a grand ride. Not too shabby!
Thanks for the all the replies, ladies/gentlemen! You can put the gun away. Happy ending....<<<<yaaayyy!!>>>

Ah, hell! Why didn't I think of that? Lol! Or, maybe if I smoked something strong and engraved it on there I could psych myself out? Put some swiggly lines and arrows on, to boot?
Nah!.....
Nah!.....
