I'd love to have a project guitar to slap some Lollar p-90's in. I don't have a P-90 guitar yet and badly want one. I have two Gibson pickups (one is a P-100) but I haven't found anything to put them in either.

I don't care for the P-100s. A SD Phat Cat isn't a P-90, but it's not bad either. I have a 335 copy with one in the neck and a TV Jones in the bridge.

My '71 D-28. I bought this new, and played it till it needed a neck reset, and stored it away. I'm a repairman, who fixes their own guitars?
My son kept bugging me to fix it for him, so finally I put some time into it. New fretboard, neck reset, carbon fiber rods in the neck, polish up the finish, great.

Actually, that's what I'm thinking about.... taking a guitar and tinkering with it some to see what I can learn. My brother loves the Texas Specials, and now that I have an "extra" guitar I can fool around with it some. I almost grabbed a minty Indonesian made strat a while back for $60 just so I could tear it down and screw around with it. Now I've got this one to play with, so that's what I'll probably do.

Scorecard so far is 2 Stratocasters, 1 Telecaster, and a Japanese Gibson Les Paul copy. Looks like lefty's aren't as hard to find as I thought they'd be........ I may be in trouble here.

Until you get going with it, the strats will be the easiest to tinker with because everything is loaded onto the pickguard. If you try the Les Paul copy, you'll have to thread things through the body. My first attempt at any guitar work was an ES330 type body. I would never recommend anyone try that as their first.

Justin - I just have one picture of each, and only one other Ep - Another Coronet - this one from '64, but modded and a tad more well-used, and in the common (now faded) cherry finish.
I picked these guitars up for about $40 a pop "back in the day". (They are worth considerably more today - especially the green one.)

I wasn't such a big Epiphone fan, but for whatever reason, I was partial to the Coronet, even though their necks are a little too cramped for these big paws.
I wish I had more money back then - the stuff I could have snagged for a hundred bucks was mind-blowing. Les Paul SG's, 50's Telecasters, J-35's, 45's, you name it.

Not so many people agree with me, but I think that the C&V bikes we can buy today for a mere pittance will appreciate in like manner - And in another generation, we won't be able to afford them ether. (Of course for those of us reposing in Forest Lawn, it won't make a lick of difference! )

1944 or so (no SN or FON) Gibson 'Banner' J-45. Held by son, 1996 model. Photo about 2005, while my dad was still alive. Bought new by my him; he used to do folk and 'organizing' songs during civil rights and labor events in the late 40s. He rarely played later in life and let me take this guitar to college. Almost all the wear is from me and my knucklehead friends. I have more of a sentimental than musical attachment to it, as its thick neck and rather thick sound have never felt particularly 'me.' For the last several years I've had a mid-2000s Martin OM28 Marquis that both feels and sounds great.

Also I have a franken-Strat that began life as an '83 1957RI, one of Fender's first efforts to revive the brand's history, prior to the Custom Shop. I bought it used that same year, then almost entirely stopped playing for almost 20 years. When I got back into playing I realized the Strat's neck was very thin and the sound also was lacking. So it now has a different neck (from a Jimmie Vaughan) and complete electronics/pickguard/harness with some Vintage Vibe pickups which I really like. Really I should put the original guitar back together, sell it, and get something more functional, but I'm used to it this way.

Also I am a hell of a better player at 55 than I was at 15 or 25.

That's a killer guitar Chicago Al. - And it sounds like your dad could have been a Woody Guthrie confederate for both his choice in guitars - and his message.

The J-35/45's are among my most favorite guitars ever - So spartan, so powerful and REAL. They are like an unexpurgated chunk of American folk history - the stuff of legend!
