De Rosa Professional build thread

official build thread for my De Rosa Professional.

i recently acquired the bike from a local flipper who beat me to the craigslist ad by less than 30 minutes.

long story short, it was listed on craigslist, bought by the flipper 45 minutes later, relisted on ebay 2 hours later, then bought by me the next day, flipper made a quick $500 off me but i got a great deal it turns out (based on recent ebay sales of C Record parts, the panto stem and another Professional built up with a slightly more modern group in not as nice of condition), cleaning/greasing/adjusting all bearings and replacing cables/housings.

the build plan is still kind of up in the air. i originally intended only on taking the bike apart, cleaning and waxing the frame, cleaning and polishing the crank and seat post (cleaning the rest of the components), and putting back together.

however, i have this very nice Super Record group just itching to be put on something and the De Rosa would be perfect.

pictures of how i got the bike (from original ebay listing):

pictures after i swapped the brake levers, bar tape and saddle for a quick shake down ride:

possible build up options:

C Record:

polished crankset and seat post, bottom bracket, headset, shifters, 32h hubs laced to Mavic Open Pros, Cobalto calipers with correct levers (aero cable routing), still looking for a nice white Concor saddle and C Record pedals

Super Record:

crankset, fluted seat post, bottom bracket, headset, shifters, pedals, 36h low-flange hubs laced to NOS Mavic Open SUP Ceramic rims, Cobalto calipers with correct levers (aero cable routing) or Super Record levers with NOS white hoods, black ISCA Selle saddle

either way, i'll be using the panto stem, and i have some surprise custom drillium with i go with the SR build.

stay tuned...

step 1, tear down, clean and wax frame...

the paint is in spectacular condition, but inevitably, i found a few little flaws here and there. nevertheless the paint is beautiful and glossy, and decals are 100% intact (except SLX decal).

don't do it man. save the super record group for another frame, one that was made in the late 70's or early 80's. your 86 derosa is period correct with c-record 1st gen. in 86 they were phasing out SR. it just wouldn't look right IMHO. get the right cobalto levers, a white saddle and white bar tape and you're done with that derosa!
