Peloton Pics
Here are some better pictures of the 1987 Schwinn Peloton I recently acquired. I switched out the mismatched wheelset with one that has Campagnolo Athena hubs and Matrix rims. I replaced the RD and FW wth a Suntour Vx GT RD and a Schwinn 14-34 FW.

1987...very good year! Looks like a nice one. Have fun. :thumb:

loving the SunTour Sprint crankset!
i would find a smaller freewheel though, i've always thought the Megarange thing was a little bit of a hoax. |
Sweet bike

That's very nice.

Did Schwinn make the Peloton in '87?

Thanks Stan!
Nice bike! Looks like it's equipped much like the '87 Circuit. |
Then, 86 it is. The PO had told me it was an 87.
MPC Biker, How is the Shimano Mega-Range a hoax? I needed the gearing; it shifts very well;it was only $14. I wish that it did not have the writing on the big cog, but I can live with it. I keep this bike at the office and ride it it in the mornings before work. I have been doing laps of the Highland Mall parking lot to stay out of traffic. If I were to use this much elsewhere I will switch out the crankset with a triple. |
Very nice bike... jealous. :)

Very cool bike. I've always like the black stays on this model.
|
I very much like that 14-34, especially with only a double up front. It's nice to know that option is available.
|
I run a couple of bikes with seven speed megarange cassettes. The smaller 6 cogs provide some reasonably tight ratios and the big 34t cog gives you a bailout gear without having to run a triple. I like the big jump to the 34t cog much better than a cassette with more even spacing between the cogs. I find shifting from 24t or 26t up to 34t much more useful than getting there from 28 or 30t. Where I ride I need big jumps in a hurry on the bottom end and skipped cogs are wasted cogs.

Congrats on this acquisition, Vonfilm. Very nice.:thumb:

Nice Schwinn. I have a '89 Circuit and would love to have a Peloton. Almost did last week. Seller undervalued a 1985 Peloton on CL and I made him a realistic offer. Was all set to pick it up and he decided it was worth a lot more so it sits on CL. He told me other potential buyers gave him the "real" value. Maybe it is worth $500 to someone, not me.

There was probably some crossover between model years since I have a 1987 Circuit frameset that was actually built in 1986.
I don't believe Schwinn would have built a 1986 model year bike in 1987, though. |
This is one bike I would still like to get. I love the paint job. Congrats!
