I've had plenty of different wheels, but I've never had occasion to think about the spacing. I'd be surprised if it weren't 135mm.

Hmm I had some Rims off a Motobecane that were 135mm and they didn't seem to fit. Steel frame so worse case I guess i'll just make them fit. Thanks

definitely have 135mm xtr 950 hubs on there. Don't know what to tell you. :shrug:

Two original survivors recently found their way into my garage. A 1983 Trek 640 with the original Campagnolo GS, and a 1984 Trek 770 with the original Campagnolo SR, and someone added a nice set of Mavic Open Pros on Ultegra hubs. Edit: Appears that the only thing missing is saddle on the 640, and the pedals/wheelset on the 770. Nice that the Cinelli bars/stems are still there.
I'm a touring bike guy, so I don't normally go in for "racers." I was *really shocked* at how quick the 770 is when I went out for ride. I have to pick my routes carefully here, though. Neither of these have what I'd call an "alpine" drive train! Anyway, pics below are as found.

I am in great "want" of a 24 inch Trek 720. I prefer an 83 or the 82 equivalent. Must have great paint.

Posted this in the 'white bikes' thread a while back. 1992 400, bought the frameset last year at the Brooklyn Bike Jumble and built it up as a 1x8 townie with tricolor 600.
Kinda new to the vintage bike game. Not trying to make a career out of it but I knew that I wanted a 90's steel bike with a decent groupset that i wouldn't want to upgrade later; decided on 600 tricolor and single front ring to keep things simple. I bought most of the group together and finished it off with the hidden bolt stem, cheap on eBay because no original packaging. RD shifts so smoothly and is significantly quieter than my singlespeed.
Recently I switched the stem (25.4) and VO Porteurs out. The Porteurs are awesome but a little too narrow. Scored some Jitensha bars but needed a 26.0 stem; found an older Salsa that I've always liked. Also decided on SPD's for commuting.

Recently acquired this – a 1981 Trek 616 as far as I can tell. 531 main tubes, Shimano 600 components. In very nice shape – paint on these is amazing! Replaced tubes/tires, chain, cables, brake pads, tape and put on a B-17.
Only issue is that shifting from 11>12 is tricky. If I go from 10>12 in one shift it seems to work. Mechanic at LBS couldn’t solve it (he’s a vintage bike pro) but it isn’t a big deal to me as it shifts nicely in all other gears and I rarely even use the big front ring.
Never paid much attention to Treks in the past, but after learning a bit more (frames hand-made in Wisconsin!) I got the bug. Look forward to getting out and riding it!

It's raining early 80's Treks in NJ
2nd early 80's 600 series Trek in a week. I picked this one from the original buyer with Owners manual. It was purchased at the same shop as the Trek I picked up last week, probably a year apart. The owner said its a 1982 614. 52cm with Suntor Cyclone derailluers and suntour barcon shifters. Still needs a Wash and new brake hoods.

This is that $60 '83 Trek 620 from a while back. New CR18 wheelset with Schwalbe HS 159s which roll smoothly.
White seat and white bar tape? Or keep the black seat and use blue bar tape to match the head tube and seat tube decal?

I'd put blue tape and look for a blue or blue/gray saddle.

^Beauty of a '83 620. I like the light blue bar tape, Cinelli had one that worked well with my '83 in the same year.
Speaking of '83 Treks, here is my latest acquisition, a 1983 Trek 600 (I regretted selling my 620 and found this on CL for a more than reasonable price). It must not have been ridden much as it was in nearly pristine condition. It had all the original components, 27'' wheels, but I switched around some parts and converted to 700c with some Shimano BR-R650 long reach brakes. My plans are to make it a long distance/brevet kind of thing. Probably 700x28 tires, aluminum fenders if I can fit them, and a Brooks. Maybe even a small front rack and saddle bag.

Gotta love minty Cyclone! Actually that bike would not look bad with a white saddle and vinyl white wrap (Ambrosio, or Bike Ribbon) That's a tough color combo to work with. Maybe Shellac some brown Newbaums, and a brown Brooks.,,,,BD

I've done some changes to my 770 and thought I'd update the pics in this thread. Westley's Bleche White really helps keep the saddle, tape, and hoods clean.
