Mine came with an aluminum spacer, but it wasn't big enough to clear the headset- I just got the nylon spacer at the hardware store.

Found this 1978 TX300 at an apartment complex and gave the original owner $50 for it. Add a Suntour 3X7 parts group from a freebie Specialized sirrus I picked up. Was building this up a my beater rain bike (yes it is really beat) but my son is moving out of the house so I am going to give it to him and keep looking for another Vintage Trek for the rain

I purchased the bike in December after my son sold his car and told me that he will use a bike and public transportation as his primary way of getting around Chicago. I have a feeling he will be using my car on date night, but that's a good plan as far as I'm concerned.

I found this Trek 400 in Milwaukee. It's very clean with only a few nicks in the paint. The wheels were shot, so I added a new pair from Velo Mine. I installed new cables, platform pedals and new Vittoria Rando Pro tires. It will get fenders and a rack soon. It has a smooth ride and is a good bike for the intended use.

Fitting a 700x32 tire to the rear of the bike was easy, however fitting the tire under the fork crown turned into minor project. The Vittoria tires are a nominal 700x32 size, but the tires are smaller, about 28.5mm wide on a Sun CR18 rim. Even so, I needed to file a little more than 1mm from the protruding steerer tube from the bottom of the fork crown, see: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...nce?highlight=

The Brakes are short-reach Shimano SL. I assume these are the same as Shimano 105, but the brakes just have the SL logo at the quick release.

made in '83 in this size 22.5. Pretty good shape.

Threw me off for a minute with the color and the 1983 brochure didn't list a 730. It appears Trek made 50 22.5" bikes and 25 24" bikes and that was it. Guy I bought it from said it was from the 90's, I knew it was early 80's. I agree Sedgemop, I've been wanting one for a while.

A recent eBay purchase. (in fact, these are the eBay photos, as I haven't taken any yet.) Not very old, and a mountain bike, so not as svelte as its road going cousins. This is an as new 1992 Trek 970 SingleTrack. The last year with lugged frames, the first year with the Ahead set thread less headset, and near the end of the US made frame. The bike still has its Trek tires, Trek saddle, and Trek tool bag. There's not even any scuffing where the cable guides rub on the head tube. I doubt this bike has more than a handful of miles on it.

Currently all apart getting cleaned, greased, and polished. I'm putting slicks on it, a shorter stem, and a VO Milan handlebar so I can reach it.










I also have a Craigslist 1995 Trek 830 Mountain Track beater with the purple fade paint.

Replaced the XC Pro RD with an XC Comp (Shimano 6sp FW) and the stock Sachs/Huret FD.

I have the same (non-canti) bike in the same size I believe.
But mine was not sprayed with the fine color of yours, but rather the drab army green.
What kind of hubs came with the wheel set?

Since originally posting this I have about 400ish miles on it. Took it this past weekend out for a ride and road some abandoned railway areas and took it through some mud. The Conti Double Fighter IIs held well but slipped. I am probably going to get a second set of rims for when I know I will be going off road. Since the original picture it has the brifters installed, Deda 250 compact drop bar, the blinding Magicshine 808E, a rear fender and a homemade front one (that I recently took off due to it soaking my feet with all the water it was blocking from my face).

My two scores this week have been from the big auction site, rather than CL. Here is one of them, 1994 Trek 2200 Carbon, Campagnolo Veloce. Also, as a regional service tech for Mich. Cat, he was headed out my way, which saved me at least 60-70 miles of driving.
