This is my first time overhauling any bike ever, a 1989 Trek 400. Needless to say, it was a fun and frustrating experience going it alone (though this site and a local C&Ver helped tremendously) and I'm going to do a few more bikes to see if it's for me. I'm not great at tuning the bike yet, but I liked tearing stuff down, cleaning, regreasing, and putting it back together. This one got touch up paint, wax, buff, the whole nine yards (at least as far I can do with my noob skills. I'm looking forward to seeing how the 400 rides, as I've never been on it before.

Next on the bench is a '88 330 that I'd like to squeeze 35c tires onto, just because I can. Living in Wisconsin I find these old steel Treks are plentiful and pretty inexpensive.

One thing I am trying to do - only buying bikes that are in my size - to keep me from going off the deep end. I wonder how long that will last?

Not long, once you put your toe in the water you almost immediately get sucked in. You're doomed - Welcome to the club!

You know the old joke: What's the right number of bikes to have?
Answer: One more than you currently have

Thanks, the last two are set up for winter riding. Had to do a little blue with the red, white.

It's some of the 90's bar tape I got from an old LBS. these Treks with the TT tubing ride great.

Very nice ride Tim. I like that colour. My red is in the keeper fleet too. The paint was in great condition and just my size. Actually, they are all the same size! The red, blue came to me as frames with the 92 white one a complete but a parts-tampered mess.

The red stays safe from the winter salt while the other two do SS/ 1X7 duty.

Thanks! I think your red one is the same year as mine, 88 no? Red was the other, probably main color option that year.
Nice looking bike in red, white one is quite a good looking ride also. Tim

I believe it to be an 88. The blue is 89, the white is a 92

'84 Trek 760

Basically finished, minus a tweak or two by the time the snow melts.

Very nice 760! Lot of great work there. Hard to believe it needs any more tweeting. Fit testing maybe?

Anytime I see a frame with their name on the front fork or stays, looks all business

It looks great. Was that the same one that was listed on Craigslist for a while in Williamsburg?

‘86 Trek 760 Pro Series paint, ‘85 parts and ‘84 frame braze date because that is how vintage Treks roll.

@bnewberry Those are MKS toe clips, about $20-25. King Cage also makes one like it, which is probably a bit nicer, for $50.
