Nice. I'm going with the same setup for my '82 610. Have the hub, waiting to get the headlight, keeping my superflash out back. How's it working for ya?

@chris- yep the entire frame was powder coated in a steel grey with pearluscent (Sp?) finish, all the components are black, everything has been replaced, the only thing original is the seatpost, but thats getting switched out soon..

Here's my Trek frankenbike. I use it as my commuter. From the color scheme and the serial number I suspect it's an '84 660. (I thought it was a 770 when I bought it.) I bought the frame from eBay, then decided I wanted an Accushift system, so I started buying parts. Accushift shifters, Suntour VX rear derailleur, Suntour something else front derailleur, and KMC chain. The wheels (and thus the Zeus? freewheel) came from a 760 I bought new in 1983. After two or three tries it now shifts very well, a bit noisy on the large cogs, but very crisp.
Beyond the Accushift setup, it's really a hodge podge. Nitto bar and stem, Suntour SL calipers, Shimano levers, Campy Chorus BB, Campy something-or-other crank (can't remember the model), Selle seat. Even the rims don't match. The front is the original Ambrosio Elite that came on my 760. The rear is a replacement Wolber Super Champion. Like I said, "frankenbike".
The only thing I still need to sort out is a shifting issue with the front derailleur. It seems the low stop screw keeps slipping down, preventing shifting to the small ring. I'm thinking I might need some Loctite on those threads...

It's a great setup. I rode through the night last Friday night on our Fleche, and never wanted for more light. I have another bike with a Schmidt hub and the same B&M light and I can't tell any difference between the two. Theoretically the Schmidt has a little less drag, but the difference is not enough to notice. The Shimano is a great hub for the money.

My Trek 1100
I bought this bike 2 years ago from craigslist with the intention of flipping but when I saw that it was in near showroom condition and it fit me perfectly, I decided I had to keep it. I upgraded all the Suntour edge components to 105 from the same era, RSX shifters and tricolor 600 hubs/campy strada rims. The latest addition was the FSA vera compact crankset and bottom bracket.

Just picked this up. Finding out its pretty rare. I sold Trek at the shop I worked at and we sold a lot of mid and high end bicycles. Didn't sell to many of these.

My 1987 400 Elance. I got the frame from Bluesdaddy, and could not be happier with it. Built it with a mix of great parts and it rides like a dream.

I am currently stripping an 83 4?? for new paint and I'm very impressed with the quality. Much better than My 73 Raleigh International.

Might as well show it since we're talking about it. Not bad for $25

This is the saddle that came on it

Gouge Away
Just got back from a 30 mile test ride after changing out a few things to make her a little more upright and comfy ride. Sorry for the pics, the sun is going down in front of me.

'82 Trek 730
Here's my 1982 Trek 730. I started a thread on this before realizing that this one already existed. The short story is that my dad bought this in '83(?) and used it up until a few years ago and pretty sporadically for the ten years before that. I've always appreciated this bike and I complained to my dad that it wasn't getting used and that it was killing me that it was hanging in his garage, waiting to corrode into dust or be stolen. He ended up shipping it out to me and I was overjoyed to measure the seat tube and find out it was a 56cm (my size). As it turns out, it's what Trek called a 58; 56cm ST (c-c) with a ~57.5cm TT and a ~13.5cm HT - long and very low considering the traditional bend bars and levers. It was more than 4" of drop which is too much for me. I hemmed and hawed about what to do with the bike because I wanted to ride it but didn't want to make too many aesthetic concessions (I don't like Nitto Technomics jacked up really high - very flexy and just not right on a race bike IMO). I ended up putting some Nitto Dove bars on it with cork grips and while it looked "gentlemanly", I came to the conclusion that I would never actually ride it that way - I don't ride to cafes or anything and typically don't ride less than 20-25 miles at a time. Plus it handled goofy. I recently decided that some new ergo bend bars, nice aero levers, and a Technomic Deluxe stem slammed down as low as it would go would shorten up the reach and get the brake hoods into a good, comfortable position height-wise without looking too much out of place. I haven't done a real ride on it yet (this weekend) but the fit seems promising and overall it looks good - not period correct but I'd rather ride it than hang it up to look at it now and then.

I just posted my '82 730 and one thing I'll say about quality is that the paint job is terrible. I could forgive the messy shorelines on the head tube panel but the metal flake in the paint is very unevenly distributed and the paint is actually lumpy in places (definitely not rust bubbles - BTW). Also surprised that the decals are on top of the clearcoat. However, the paint on my wife's '87 Elance 400T is awesome - amazing really. The metal flake blue finish is so deep. I'd love to have one of my customs painted in the same color but it would cost a ton!

'89 420 frankenbike with the wheels and groupset from an 86 Miyata 912 that's too small for me. Not much to look at, but a great rider...

Maybe it being sold as a bare frame they just shipped with the decals in the box not applied and no clear coat at all to let the applicable decals for the end users build to be applied..
