Maybe it's the angle that the photo was taken from, but that 720 appears to have plenty of toe overlap, am I correct?

I think mine is the same size as that 720 and i get toe overlap, I still have yet to install fenders, I think i want to change to 700c wheels since my rear is wobbly.

Here's a quick cellphone shot out the office door showing the latest developments on my Trek 715. Biggest recent change was to "clear the deck", putting the thumb shifter onto the bar end and relocating the bell to the stem. This makes a huge difference. The albatross bars are now much more versatile and I find myself riding on the forward bends at least half the time. Another big improvement was replacing the original Jim Blackburn rack, which never really fit this 25" bike, with the Axiom Streamliner DLX Disc rack. Note the rearward extensions at the dropouts. Suddenly I can fit a normal sized pannier back there without heelstrike (size 12 shoe)! Awesome. I'm waiting for a custom-made Philosophy bag to arrive--chocolate brown and saddle leather. I commute on this bike nearly every day now.

You know, I've had a couple of those 220 kids bikes. Flipped one and gave the other to a neighbor kid. Seems like about the nicest 24" MTB out there. The only one I'd consider rehabbing.

My 84 420 that I picked up for $40. Somewhere along the line before I got it somebody ditched the Mallard Helocmatic and threw on a set of 7speed 105 Hubs laced to 700c CR18's and Aero levers. I picked this up to flip but the more I rode it the more I liked it and it is the official beater. Paint is screwed up bad but it rides great. Threw a Pave saddle on it, set of Bar ends and Deore LX derailers that came off another flipper (and put the Acera and Vetta on the flipper). I have the matching LX cranks but like the look of the Sugino's so sticking with them. It also got a set of Conti Ultra sport 700x28's this week.
I have been riding this more then anything else of late.


I had a 83 420 pass through my hands on a flip. It was too small for me.


I had a 87 300 I flipped and a 90's 720 Multitrack but nbo pics handy.
With some luck maybe I will have a 600 with full 600 this weekend.

Darn, I was hoping for the oldest frame on BF crown. Here's my '78 TX500 frame, very period incorrect. It's changed a bit since this photo:

Sailorben might have me beat on the old-timer. Either way, that gold paint certainly is beautiful! Condolences on the 530 JYB, that was a gorgeous bike.

'86 Elance 400. It's beautiful and a sweet rider. It's been through some changes on the way to a Shimano 600 Tricolor 7-speed drive train.

Here it is after a Joe Bell Signature Finish in DuPont Imron Coarse Aluminim; I've got nearly a full NIB 600 Arabesque grouppo and should get her built up this summer.

Yes it does. The 720 and the 85 or so 620 had really long chainstays, like 55cm, I believe (look at how much clearance behind the seat post). So to keep the wheelbase reasonable....

I had a 620 I rode for about 10 years, the overlap never bothered me, but like anyone, I'd rather not have it all other things being equal.

I love old steel Treks! I had one of those charcoal 560's, but it was a little rusty being from Hawaii. Also had a white purple 1000 with tri color 600 transplanted onto it. Here are mine at the moment, and they will have to be pried from my cold fingers, lol.

1985 600 with 92/93 7 speed 105 transplanted. Awesome riding bike that seems to have been made for me...!



1979 510. Ishiwata 022 and loaded with campy with Universal Mod 77 brakes. Can't say enough about how it rides/handles. Just amazing!

Machine Age, the picture(s) don't begin to do justice to the look and feel of this frame after Joe Bell works his magic. He originally repainted it in a slightly different metallic silver that was closer to the original late-70's Imron finishes from Trek but a chemical reaction in the finish made the paint extremely brittle--installing any component at all would result in tiny chips of finish popping off the frame. The original paint work was the lowest offering from his line but he completely re-finished it in his top of the line Signature Finish as a warranty repair, including decals. About once a month I take her out of the protective packaging to admire the finish and run my hands over the surfaces to feel no flaw whatsoever and amazement over the decals being totally-embedded in the clear coat with no surface difference detectable around the edges of the decals.

Well, the serial number is N4F2A26 which I interpret as an '82 but I don't have the color band in the seat tube. The Trek site says that would make it an 80 or 81.
So I think I'm out of the running for earliest Trek on the forum.
