I am appreciating the vintage Treks! Here is an update on my 84 610. Not really a complete Trek. Brazed on eyelets that were removed by the PO, added bosses for rear rack, added STI cable stops on the DT and filled the space between the added bottle cage mount and ST. Replaced corroded parts with those from my bent up Moto Le Champion, used a set of GP4 w/HF Campy hubs for kicks along with a pair of Campy SPD's found on CL for $10.
Hey, if this doesn't qualify, delete this entry!

'84 400 with a newschool re-do

Note the Rhode Gear seat pack that was bought around the time of original purchase. I've owned it since new (got it in 7th grade--Dad got one that I'd "grow into") and it was retrieved from Mom's basement after hanging for 16+ years untouched. Great to have it back on the road again. It fits like a glove and rides beautifully.

Way cool bike!

Based on the graphics, that looks like a 1985 model.

Thanks for the props.

Oddly enough, it was bought in Spring of '85 as a clearance from '84. When you google "1984 Trek 400", that colorway comes up.

Picked up a 1985 TREK 470 couple of months ago. Bike was chained to front porch post with about five wraps of log chain around the top tube, which explains the paint damage. Frame is undamaged and inside of tubes do not show any corrosion, residue inside of tubes may be some kind of frame saver. Pics of some of the bike components before disassembly show the condition of the bike, failed to take before pic of entire bike. Original Shimano 600 components except for the rear derailleur which is later 86 - 87 model. Plan to get the bike in ridable condition and enjoy then later maybe get the frame refinished in original color scheme.

Attached some before and after pics of components. The seat was trashed about 5 minutes after the picture was made.

Will post progress pictures.

Thanks Impala - and yes, technically it's taupe, but you're closer to the mark by calling it "gold". (There is a subtle gold metal-flake in it.)

There certainly is something about those TX bikes.

And that one certainly is a beautiful looking bike.

I'd already forgotten how much I liked that color. Looks great with the leather accents.

Thank you. Front rack is a Blackburn. Tires are 32mm Paselas. The frame/rack was modified by a previous owner...braze-ons for centerpulls and fender mounts, etc. Here's a few other pics.

'87 Trel 560 EX Pro. Ecru, Shimano 600 (6208). Just finished this one, first Trek in a while. Was awful hard to find cable housing in that dark blue.
These bikes sure do ride nicely.

That's a 450! I just fixed one up. Now for the shameless plug.. you can see that thread under the appraisals subforum

Here is mine:

I like yours a lot. That's what I envisioned mine to look like if I put more money into it.

I also have a 1984 Trek 560. I need to get a picture of that.

1985 Trek 400 built up to commute on this year. I changed out the 27" wheels for 700c Matrix/Campy wheels from ebay (probably came from a higher-end Trek with Trek SS spokes). Also replaced the brakes with Tektros and Tektro aero levers, shifters are Suntour Power Shifters, and the rear derailleur will probably be swapped for a Suntour Cyclone. Sunrace 13-25 7 speed freewheel and SRAM 8 speed chain.

This is my first Trek, and even though it is a lower model, I am impressed with how much bike you got for the money. Double-butted True Temper frame, lugged on a base model?
