I'm partial to this one, down here in Chicago. Despite what the seller says, it's a '77. or so, TX500. I know that's not what you're looking for, but it's so good looking. Don't see many of the early ones in red. Those Ishiwata frames are great riders too.

Ohh, nice, I think the frame is just a bit too tall for me though. Thanks, Tim

The new Brooks came in today. I think I could've done without the California logo on top, but the price was to good to pass. Now , should I match the bar tape? Brooks has some new synthetic wrap that's around $30 and looks really nice.

Yes, or you could do white bar tape and swap the black hoods for some gum color ones?

Picked up this 1989 trek 420 yesterday. Canary yellow! Sport group but with nice triple crank. These 420s are nice riders though this one does not fit me. Which is probably good.

How do you like the Brooks microfiber tape so far?

I picked up some Richey faux leather stuff... I'm pretty "meh" on it so far.

And those Soma tires look really nice on there as well. Do you have room for 32s?

I haven't had a chance to take it out yet, constant rain this weekend. I think I'll like it, feels soft and very well padded. Went on great, the plugs they supplied were to big to squeeze in. I'll measure later, but I think 32's will fit fine.

Trek 620, dunno what year. Built up nice as a 650b bike. Thought it looked real tough with the Cazaderos.

Hopefully will get back to this soonish with the torch for proper 650b conversion business.

Wheels are 36h f/r 105 hub and Velocity Synergy rims, sort of my back up wheels.

Rubber is Soma Cazaderos 650b x 42mm. Look cool but I prefer smooth tread. There are some pics in there with pari motos and Baby Shoe Pass and a SON dyno 32h A23 wheel that lives on my custom these days.

That looks rad. Good to know that a knobby 650bx42 will fit on an early 80s Trek frame, it gives me confidence for my plan to run the new 42c Pari-Motos on my 510 650b build.

Here's my '88 Trek 870 drop bar conversion, it's a great riding bike and handled winter riding duties perfectly this past season. I picked the frame up from the C&V sales forum almost a year ago, and now that I'm sure it's a keeper I'm considering my options for paint/powdercoat since the finish is in rough shape:

Are those Compass bars or Maes Parallel? Not as supple as EL's, but the Somas look bada$$. Good to see you over on the BF side, Nick. Looking forward to the full Monty conversion.

Those are the VO Randonneur bars in the 46cm width. I want to give them another try. I did the Oregon Outback on my Soma GR with those bars...

They're very generous in every dimension. Lots of reach, lots of drop, wide, lots of sweep, maybe even a touch of flare iirc. I've come to like the 42cm wide Nitto 135 bars a lot and theyre far more compact.

Building an MB-1 with the Soma GR 7cm offset fork - think it should use these bars.

The max width of standard drop bars I typically ride is 42cm. The 135's look a lot like the old Sakae Randnner/Randonneur bars. I believe they measure width at the drops. What is the width of the 42cm Nitto 135 bars at the tops, if you don't mind measuring?

Nice bike. Looks like a 1983. The 84 620 had canti's.

Late 80's 560 upgraded with ultegra shifters and rear derailleur. Aero rims. (have look clipless pedals for it, but the shoes didn't survive being in storage for a couple decades)

I've got 44cm Nitto B132 bars- They measure 39 c-c at the hoods. That's "splay."

I asked about this from Compass- Theo was kind enough to send me measurements:

40/36
41/37
42/38
44/40

The Maes 1970 only one size: 42/38.

Drool, slobber, drool. 😁 That's my size alright (probably 25.5", unless it's a custom), and I like that red quite a bit. Not so easy to get to though, from here. ☹
