Great build, Wedge. IMHO the Elance series is one of the best deals in vintage bikes, bang for the buck wise.

All hail the New Elance! Looks amazing!

Also, I see you de-anodized and polished those 7700 cranks. Very nice.

Great Job!

Outstanding!

It matches my 610 in tubing, once trek started messing with aluminum and CF, all the numbers migrated down, my 600 series of '83 is pretty comparable bro the 400 Elance of '87

Wow! That looks sweet...always wondered how the newer graphics would look on the older vintage frames. Ironically the new 2019 520 has retro graphics!

1987 Trek 400 Elance

Several have commented on the graphics, this shows the ones made for the wheelset in better detail

With storage bottle and original seat post that was recently changed out. Little better lighting in these shots...

Just as a small factual matter... the 1987 Trek 400 Elance would have not had a 531 fork- the fork and stays were Tru Temper CrMo. So the 531 decal on the seat tube would have been one that says something like 'guaranteed made with butted frame tubes' instead of something like 'butted tubes forks and stays.'

Again, it's a really sweet bike- I don't think you're actually misleading anyone as it's really clear this bike has been redone from top to bottom- in a most extraordinary manner.

Good to know, thanks for the info. Wasn’t much left of the original I just tried to find something that looked as close as possible to what remained on the rusty tube. That/those happened to be the set I used. I debated on not using the fork ones at all, then decided if someone mistook carbon for steel that would probably be a good thing.

Guess I can share this here too. The only Trek in my collection right now and the only full carbon bike I have.

Found this mislisted and NOS on Ebay and got the frame for what I think was a steal. Built up with a brand new Ultegra 8000 groupset and wheels I stole off my Basso.

Just got this, it's supposed to be a '79, but serial number is an anomaly. I started another thread on it here, but wanted to add the photo to the library on this thread.

This bike was given to me by the original owner who got in an auto accident a week after he bought it. He never really got to ride it due to serious back injury. I took it apart and cleaned it and i couldn't ride it because it was way to small for me. I gave it to my son in law so he would have a cool vintage bike. He loves it but doesn't ride it much. I had some nice offers on it , but couldn't bring myself to sell it. Joe joesvintageroadbikes.wordpress

A few final shots of the 930 refinished. Unfortunately the frame is just a couple three centimeters too small for me, so I'm offering it up for sale in the C&V marketplace.

Darn you!! I just sold my refinished 930 that was a couple three centimeters too small for me last week and yours is just my size. Not even a week after thinking I'd finally reached N I see this. Must be strong...

Damn, that's sexy. Something about a drop bar bike and knobby tires. It's like a elegant woman who will cut a rug in a dress and high heels then turn around and kick your a$$ in the Spartan Race.
