What to do with an extra IGH? Help me decide.

I wanted a new toy so I found a deal on a SRAM i-Motion 9 speed IGH and it showed up today :thumb:

Its gonna go on my Austro-Daimler Inter-10 which currently sports a Shimano Nexus-7 IGH.

I've got some options for what to do I suppose. I can disassemble the Nexus wheel, buy new spokes and put the SRAM in. Then probably sell the nexus and add the spokes to the collection

Or I could get a new Rim and spokes and build a whole nother wheel for the SRAM and possibly use the Nexus wheel on something else...what? I dunno.

is there another path I am not seeing? I'm sorta not sure what to do :o

personally I'd just but a new rim and spokes for the new hub and keep the old one together. So you have two IGH wheels. Wouldnt you rather have two IGH bikes?

Depends on what rims you have on the Austro-Daimler and whether you can get another (or two more) of the same type. You can't have non-matching rims on a bike. That wouldn't be right. :twitchy:

Maybe it's just me, but I never un-build a wheel till something is broken.

You've got too much time on your hands if you're thinking of disassembling and rebuilding that wheel. You have better things to do like planning the Sparta 32 beer hill climb route. ;)

Build another wheel and keep the old one for a spare, or sell it complete.

Get rid of the SRAM, and trade me a Sturmey AW for a Sturmey S3C. :P

Let me know what you decide...I checked my bench last night and I have 4 IGH hubs sitting there. :innocent: Two Nexus, one SA FG and an S3C.

Does your Nexus 7 support a roller brake? They're kinda cool.

That could be fun :)

Mr. IGH, mine is a Coaster Brake, it won't take a Roller Brake, but I do have a couple of roller brake hubs and I love em.

I got some nice french chrome 27s. The kind with the dimples. They're pretty as long as you don't use the rim for a brake.
