headset options

im looking for a 1 inch threaded headset to replace some complete nightmare headset i have currently. IM most familar with the top and bottom cup design but im looking at the Tange Levin as a replacement. This is one of those that has standard bottom cup and then another race that goes on the top with a reverse cup or cap or this race and bearing.

Is this design superior? I have seen both over the years but mostly the standard top and bottom cup design where the bearings go into the top cup and then the race threads on the fork.

You might need (probably will) a special press to put them in if you don't use the old-school ones.

Yes, it's superior because the top cup sheds water.

The Tange Levin in all its variations IS old-school. As long as your presser, be it factory-made or homemade or just plain improvised, does not apply pressure to the machined bearing race are, you should be able to press it into place.
