Raleigh frame
so i got ahold of a couple bikes today, need some help with one of them.
it's a raleigh, has the old nottingham hedbadge on it, but no decaling. Bike came with suntour mountech front and rear derailleurs. it has barcons (bar end shifters from suntour) it has modolo Speedy brakes on it (levers and calipers). I'm trying to find out what kind of raleigh this was. Also there are no tubing stickers so i would like to know what kind of tubing it is. There's a suntour quickrelease for the seatpot, is this something that would normally come on the bike? i thought most of these bikes would have the seatpost bolt, that requires and allen Key, or the normal nut and bolt screws. nothing looks stock either, i can't tell. One crank arm is a dura-ace and has a gold tint to the crank arms, with nice shimano chain wheels, the other side says raleigh. i'm pretty sure that they are mismatching cranks. any info would be great, trying to put it back together soon. - Thanks in advance!!! here's some pictures (quality may not be the greatest, pictures where taken from my iphone: NEW NOTES: i went and checked the seat post sizing and the post said 2#.2, the middle number was worn out, so i took my micrometer and it measured at 27.1 so i'm pretty sure it's 27.2 http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...4/IMG_0494.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...4/IMG_0489.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...4/IMG_0495.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...4/IMG_0496.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...4/IMG_0497.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...4/IMG_0492.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...4/IMG_0490.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...4/IMG_0486.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...4/IMG_0485.jpg |
That bike looks cool as crap. We need Kurt and the Raleigh boys on this one. Nice Dura-Ace cranks on there though.
Suntour dropouts do seem out of place to me for a Nottingham badged bike. Oh, yeah. What's the seatpost diameter? |
i will check tomorrow

Could be a late 70s/early 80s Super Course, which came with bar-end shifters and had SunTour dropouts.

I'm thinking early 80's Japanese made Competition.

At any rate, it's been to the framebuilder for some braze-ons. -Kurt |

Can anyone tell me more about the frame, i couldn't find it in any online catalogues, it's interesting cause it's raleigh with suntour dropouts. also can you tell me what type of tubing is used, if anyone can make and educated guess or so, thanks |
I'm guessing Reynolds 531 because it's a Raleigh. Pretty positive, acyually.

Very interesting, and can only give you a few opinions/observations. On one hand I tend to agree with Neal that it could be an English 78/79 era Super Course. This is based on the Suntour rear frame dropouts, the seat post size, the seat stay and headtube lugs. However, the bar con dropouts are really throwing me=I believe that they just used a down tube clamp on guide. Also I do not remember English Raleighs having rack braze ons in the frame, located above the rear brake. I also thought that the SuperCourse had a 26.8 mm seat post diameter. Interesting mix, to say the least.

Wasn't the Competition & Super Course made in Japan begining in 81? So maybe the Notingham badge points to a 70's vintage. The Lugs are different than an '81 Competition
