Bridgestone "Carmel" city bike.
 

Can anyone tell me anything about the Bridgestone "Carmel"
model city bike. I own one and all I know is......

It's a true Mixte frame.
It's lugged with cast lugs.
It's a 6 speed with suntour gear/shifter.
It's VERY well made in Japan.
It's got 36 spoke steel 27" wheels.

Please.....anyone have some history on this bike**********????

yes only made in 1985/86 so far as I have seen... the 85 version is 2 pounds heavier than the 86 version which comes in at a whopping 31 pounds complete with chain guard and fenders. If stripped down to its bare essentials it would be an interesting bike.

Have one of these on the hanging on the garage wall for a few years now and thinking of getting it down and tuning it up, a thrift shop find in very nice condition. The recent post about someone looking for a seatpost got me to thinking about it again. This one have the full fenders and chain guard which seems to make it a 1986 model, correct? I took a hanging upside down hiding behind the Schwinn 2speed pic of it last night and might or might not post that pic in the mean time.

Off to search some more to see what else I can learn about it. I'm thinking of tuning it up and then rigging up something similar for my wife and me to ride down to the harbor for breakfast on the weekends with.

Does anyone have a fresh updated link to the link posted in this thread as that link seems to be gone now.

Edit to add: Looks like I might have a 1985 model, I'll have to check when I get home. Looking at the http://www.sheldonbrown.com/bridgest...ne-carmel.html page I think the ladies model at home has the 3-color flag on the seat tube which is appears the 1986 model doesn't have.

Also looks like I now have the urge to find a matching "his" bike to go with this "hers" bike. Shoot, but the search should be fun.

Does any know if the Bridgestone CB-2 can run 700cc wheels?

From the research I've done online this seemed to be the hybrid model of the City Bike series so I wasn't sure. I am thinking about building one up as single speed or 8-speed (front derailer only- I'mjust lazy) but don't know what kind of wheels I can run.

Also, do you think the geometry could work for drop bars or that would just be too much?

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Conversion from 27 inch to 700c has been covered many times. No reason it can't be done with a little $$. Check out the single speed forum if you are going to go that route.

Geometry depends more on your geometry. Many have put drop bars on similar bikes, will need new brake levers of course (which are available at a low cost).

The upright bars will have better resale.
