Shimano 600EX (BR-6208) shoes?
Hi
I have Shimano 600ex on my vintage Trek. I need to get new shoes for the calipers - they are BR-6208. Does anyone know what modern shoe would work on these brakes? I can seem to find anything that cross-references these calipers.
I'm sure somebody has done this before - what shoes are you running?
Thanks!

I have BR-6207 brakes (which Velobase seems to imply are pretty much the same thing), do you mean you want to use the original shoe holders that say Shimano on them? Because I'd imagine any old shoe with threaded hardware would fit in there otherwise.

Kool-Stop makes several different styles, and they're reputed to be the best-stopping shoes out there. For replacements that match the originals: good luck. Any that exist are over 20 years old now, so the material is probably oxidized/hardened. Of course I say that when I'm riding 23 year-old shoes!

I realize any "original" shoe will be hard as a rock. Otherwise I would what I currently own. With all the different type shoes available out there, I am trying to find out what other folks are using.

I have a variety of Shimano brakes from that period, and I use off-the-peg modern Shimano 105 pads. They're slicker-looking, and more aero that the originals, but they do the job ...

I've replaced entire shoes, not just rubber inserts, on my 6207 calipers. I used Shimano replacement shoes off the blister-pack display at my LBS, several years ago. I also tested some Campy brake shoes with Kool-stops in them on that bike, and they made no improvement.
IMO the 6207 is a poor brake - always squishy with poor deceleration, even after "blueprinting" the cables and testing with Campy Record levers. Can't say about the 6208.
If you need a period replacement or NOS, I don't know where to find you what you need.
