wow, my first one was a Schwinn Super-LeTour with all Campy. I worked at the Schwinn dealer and built it up myself. I loved that bike. Apparently my brother thought I was never coming back after joining the military and sold it while I was gone..
Sadly, I can't find one picture of it.
A 1972 Fuji Finest stuck in the corner of a bike shop got me going again. I just couldn't stand the poor thing languishing away. No, I still haven't replaced the saddle..

No doubt about it:
1976 Sears Free Spirit, Bicentennial edition 10-sp, black vinyl wrap, center pulls, dual-position brake levers.
White with red/blue stripes, lugged frame, chromies, black saddle, I swapped the gums for black tires.
Removed all the reflectors and added 8" fenders and an analog speedometer.
Was on sale for 99.99 + 6% tax = 105.99
Rode it for almost two years, sold it for $105.
And about 35 or more years later, $100 plus shipping from eBay (before rehab):

Disraeli Gears
My first 10-speed was a gold-tone 1963 Schwinn Sierra (15-speed Continental) that I bought used for $15 in 1975 while in grad school in Ann Arbor. It had a bent (Ashtabula) crank, so I bought a 10-speed Continental crank, and overhauled the bike, installing new tires, new rings, new chain. Huret Allvit RD if I remember correctly (Huret anyway). I rode it with great pleasure until I bought a new R531 frameset and built myself a "racing" bike in 1985, with more exotic gear. I gave the Schwinn to a friend; haven't seen him in awhile, so I don't know if he still has it.

Bought this new the summer I finished high school. It transformed my life, and I lived on it. It's been with me through a dozen states and a dozen countries. The only original part left on it is the Stronglight 93 crank and BB. The BB is getting a new Phil real soon, along with a few other "freshing up" details.
I still love how it rides!

I don't have any good pictures of the one that started it all.

And lord how I miss that bike.

This mid 80's Giant RS 940 was given to me by a neighbor cleaning out his garage. I had been riding on an ancient Univega mountain bike, which suited me just fine until I got back on a road bike.....
BEFORE:
AFTER:
That was a Dupli-Color paint job with their clear over it. Needless to say I could not stand the pink and white combination, not even a little.
Eventually I decided it was too small for me, it caused more pain than I thought normal, I bought a messed up Raleigh on ebay, then another, then another.........and on and on.

That bike has long since been dismantled, but the frame sits in my side yard and still looks pretty decent after a few years of exposure. The forks, which were a replacement put on by the previous owner, went to Bigbossman a few years ago. The rims are hanging in the garage and other parts have been scattered about. This bike did the most important thing, which is got me back on a road bike.
