Puch Revived

Attached are pictures of my revived Puch Luzern (circa 1981). It started off as an almost complete pile of parts purchased off my local CL -- $75 for everything but the wheels, pedals and saddle. The clincher for me was the lovely Shimano 600 "Arabesque" gruppo, as well as the 531 frameset (main tubes only, I believe). I deviated a bit from stock on the rebuild with the Nitto Albatross bars, early Dia-Compe mountain bike brake levers, and Suntour bar-cons from my parts collection. Both the vintage Avocet Racing III saddle and new MKS AR-2 pedals were sourced from eBay. As for the wheels, I had a set of early Dura-Ace hubs laced to Campy tubular rims (I think the rear hub may be Shimano's first attempt at a cassette hub), last used over 20 years ago. Fortunately for me, a friend of mine had a stock of NOS Ambrosio Elite 19 rims, and donated both the rims and the wheel rebuild to this project. Topped off with SKS fenders and a Japanese brass bell. Weighs about 24 pounds, and rides like a dream. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.

Nice! How do you like it? I just revamped a Puch Alpina for my mom. I left the DT shifters, though. How are the bar ends?

Love it! Fast and really fun to ride. As fate would have it, I revived a Puch Alpina for my brother last fall, and scavenged the Bar Cons from that bike for use on the Luzern -- my brother didn't want the Bar Cons, and so I replaced them with a set of Suntour down tube Power Shifters. I've always been a huge fan of the Suntour Bar Cons, as I've never used a friction shifter with better feel.
