Eagle Transfers, HELP PLEASE!!

Hi , thanks for reading,
I am restoring two 1970's Wester Ross Handbuilt bikes.
John Connell owner of Wester Ross and builder of the cycles is my father in law so we have my wife's two cycles. The first frame is re-enamelled and ready for the transfers. John has supplied me with sets of the original transfers which are Kwik-Fix Solvent applied transfers from Eagle Transfers Ltd. John himself cannot remember the application method or the solvent required and i have fished the internet and rang a couple of other cycle restorers but to no avail, so anyone out there with any knowledge to impart on this matter , I would be most grateful,
Thanks again, Nigel

I suspect you're talking about something usually called "varnish fix" decals/transfers. Take a look at the H Lloyd cycles website; they sell a lot of replacement decals and their website may describe the process.

Thanks rhm, I have checked on the Lloyd website. The varnish type decals are fixed by painting the back with goldsize (or varnish), allowing the goldsize to go tacky and then sticking on. I dont think that these tranfers are of this type as they specifically state on the backing paper 'solvent applied transfers' but you could be right, i shall try phoning them tomorrow during business hours to verify.http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=205050

Unfortunately H Lloyd cycles are closed till 28th June so i may have to sit on the project a while which is a shame as i want to get Herself back on the road while she's still keen on the idea :-)

Hi Legin, I was doing some research on Eagle Transfers and I came across your post. I used to work for Eagle and I used to make up the solvent that was used to apply the (Kwik-Fix) transfers that you have. I'm retired now and sadly Eagle is no more but I'm sure I have a list of ingredients some where, and I can remember how to apply them so if you're still in need, let me know and I'll have a search. Regards Carol

Carol,
I'm afraid Legin was on this forum only three times, and not for a year now. Nonetheless, I'm sure there are others on this forum who would be interested in the list of ingredients, should you find it!

Hi Carol came across you post from my web search about Eagle Tranfers which my son has for his bike and also for a 1973 bus restoration project he is undertaking with his brother which has 3 large Eagle Kwik-fix logo tranfer sheets which require soaking in a solvent solution. We are at a loss at to what the recipe is for the solution and method of application, would be much appreciated if you can help us. Their email address is theyellowayproject@hotmail.com.

I am restoring a Major Nichols racing frame. It is a lovely example of his work, with a Zeus 2000 track fork crown, etc. I have just bought some original Major Nichols decals for the project (including a pair of "Record Road Sprint" decals). These were made by Eagle Transfers Ltd and they are of the Kwik-fix solvent-applied variety.

I would be most grateful for your solvent recipe, if you have tracked it down again Carol. Thank you in anticipation.

Carol,

I am new member and in the process of restoring my Alan Shorter ( made for me many years ago )

I have just got some duplex paper and would like to know if you have the recipe for the adhesive.

I need 50 posts to message anyone so I have done the request this way.

Regards

Barry Adams

Hi Carol, Did you find the solvent ingredients for transferring the Eagle Kwik-Fix? - I am desparate to apply mine and nothing I try seems to make the back tacky.
Thanks Rob (home@tufti.co.uk)

Since most of you asking about these are newbies who can't PM, I sent Carol a pm with a link to this thread.

Thank you Pars, that's very kind.
