Sachs Torpedo Coaster Brake Hub
Does anyone have any information about a Torpedo hud (Sachs Torpedo?). I came across one today that is in great shape. The hud has a coaster brake and says Torpedo Boy 24 F an S in the middle of the hub assembly. THe lever contraption on the non drive side says Tordedo Boy Made in Germany with and eagle insignia. Does this hub have any value. Any information you can give me would be much appreciated.
I have heard that the hub might have two gears internally that shift automatically. is this true.

how come nobody mentioned bendix coaster hubs? they produced a cool 2spd kick-back coaster hub. 2spds, no shifter cable.
sachs also produced the torpedo boy 2spd auto hub. completely automatic, it shifts into a taller gear at approx 10 mph.....i want one but theyre dam near impossible to find. i saw one on ebay once but it went for a lot of money...

Dear Everest,
I have a Duomatic bike complete.
Small backpedal toggles hub, backpedal firmly to brake.
Mine looks like was stored in garages unused since near new.
Attached picture of it.
I understand it dates from post WW2(?) and might be the first compact out.
Appears to have had a home paint job at some point.
Anyone have any information it will be most welcome.
Regards,
Brian Grey

That's a Raleigh 16 from the mid 60s. It looks like it's got a dynohub on the front. Mine has a SA 3-speed tranny w/o the dynohub. Original tires were white Dunlops. Pic is of Ringo Starr on the folding version of this bike. I've also got a copy of the original Raleigh ad for this bike, I think it's on my computer at work; I'll post it in a day or two if I remember.
