Identify this Raleigh?

I'm trying to buy my FIRST bike ever, and someone offered this raleigh to me through Craigslist for $50, however I'm not sure what model this is or if it's a fitting price.

What things should I look for as a beginning cyclist?

Has this bike been posted on here before?

It's late 80's Raleigh Capri. Not really anything special. Are you a girl or guy?

I'm a girl. Do you think the price is fair? This will be my first "real" bike after owning a mountain Schwinn from 5th grade for 6 years so I'm looking for something decent.

Good, because it's a lady's frame design. It could be a good beginner bike for $50. Is it ridable as-is? The tires look decent and the wheels may have been upgraded to aluminum. That could be a good sign. Go look at it with a magnet in your pocket. Whip it out and put it on the rims. If it sticks, they're steel. Aluminum is better for braking reliability. The seller will be impressed with your magnet skills.

Welcome to the interest in vintage bicycles. I publish a website that is intended to help people just like you, and me for that matter. The site is called MY "TEN SPEEDS" and I go into many things that new comers will want to know before buying a bicycle. Visit Finding Bicycles and then branch out from there. You should find the information interesting, informative and entertaining (at least I hope so).

Ladies bikes? I sold this ladies Sekine recently for a hundred dollars plus shipping. The bike was almost mint...

Good luck with your bike and your new interest.
