Recently picked up this MB-3. The best I can tell it's all original except for the rear derailer.

Prior to a handlebar swap-out; my '93 now has mustache bars & bar ends (and a B17, rather than a B67).

Update: In its current configuration, pending a tune-up & a set of Panaracer gumwalls...

All period-correct Exage/ Exage Sport, with bodged Rivendell/ Sport LX bar-end shifters; the original Dia Compe cantis have been swapped out for cosmetically similar (but far better) LX brakes.

Would a kabuki by bridgestone count? It is tange doublebutted tubes and even though the run of the mill kabuki was not much to look at this one is good to look at but could use a touch up here and there. It is a 54cm frame with suntour components. lots of chrome. top of the line in 70's.

My recently purchased 1984 Bridgestone 500. I changed the bar tape and threw a Brooks saddle on her. A new set of toe clips are on order to finish her off. These pre GP Bridgestones are far better bikes than they get credit for, this is a great riding bike!

1989 Bridgestone NB-26.

I believe this model wasn't around for long and was never listed in the Bridgestone catalog. An unremarkable, but comfortable ride.

It looks like a very long reach to the brakes. Beautiful bike, though.

I still have all the original packaging material and the original receipt!

Just curious, but why would you keep a cardboard box for 35 years?

Here are a couple of pre-restoration photos of my incognito 1985 Brigestone 700.

If you look closely, you'll see that this frame has a little something special added on. The original owner had the frame drilled and reinforced for internal computer wire routing, including adding a couple of tabs for mounting the sensors for rear wheel speed and cadence.

I believe Cycleheimer bought the Kabuki 30 years ago, put in his attic un-assembled and within the last few years put it together.

Thats cool as hell! I noticed in the first picture what looked like a bung by the shifter. My first thought (before I read the post) was internal routing for a dynamo wiring.

Hi Runningdoc,

What fenders are you running on the 93 RB-1? I have a 93 RB-2 that I would love to install fenders on for commuting...

Thanks!

I recently rebuilt two bridgestones. One is a 1993 XO-2 that I am using as a commuter. The bars and stem are original. The wheels are built around suntour cyclone sealed hubs with a rhyno lite rim up front and an araya rm-17 in the rear. The derailleurs are shimano 105. I also used a stronglight 99 crank. I basically built the bike with whatever I had in my parts bin. The other is a 1993 RB-1 that I build up as more of a long-distance bike with a shimano 600 triple (46-36-24), sachs 7 speed freewheel (12-24), ultegra rear derailleur , suntour superbe pro sealed hubs, campy omicron rims, Royal Compe II short reach single-pivot sidepulls with shimano 105 brake levers, and avocet racing 1 saddle. I could have built the bike up with original components but I wanted to put a triple on it and used mainly used parts from the right era.

I've got a Bridgestone Atlantis that needs overhaul and cleaning. I am new to bike wrenching and is still learning and gathering basic bike tools and specific replacement parts so this could take a while...

Personally I always felt these, the CB & NB series, really would have been terrific little city bikes, if only they'd had more BB drop. Not that I'm knocking them but it seemed that, as they were, they only repeated the basic premise & frame designs already better rendered in the XO & MB series, which made them kind of an anachronism. They really didn't add anything new to the product line.

I put planet bike cascadia 35mm road fenders. Here's exactly how I put them on (the rear fender is tricky because the 93' rb-1 doesnt have a chainstay bridge.

Oops... I forgot to post a "post restoration" photo.
(And if anyone was wondering... you CAN splice old Cateye computer sensors to a new wired Cateye Computer.)

1992 XO-3, which I picked up in April. Yeah, the bottom of the XO series for that year, and the only one of the 92 XOs to have 700C wheels. And as much as I pine for an XO-1 (or 2), the XO-3 was still a fine, fine bike. The mustache bars and road levers were not extant, as the XO-3 came with arc bars and mountain levers. Someone decided to convert it to drops and road levers, which is how it was when I purchased it. I was gifted these Nitto mustache bars (and Dirt Drop stem) so of course I felt it would be appropriate. A fun ride, and glad that it has clearance for those Resist Nomad 700X45C tires.

I upgraded the 300 to 700c wheels with Ruffy-tuffy tires & a Rudi saddle.
Rides great.
