Here is a 1990 CB-1 picked up for spring resale. Appears to be original mostly with shimano 300lx group. Somebody set it up as full on commuter 18in frame of 4130 cromo tig weld in Taiwan but still interesting, mostly original example.

And here is a 1985 t700, picked up last fall and all original. Rode is until winter on stock dt shifters but converted it this winter. Currently features nitto noodle bars, ultegra bar end shifters (set to friction), nitto dirt drop mt10 w/100m reach, new shimano aero levers (cleaner), new fenders and tires that fit accordingly (27in wheels).

During overhaul this winter came to really appreciate the build quality and would put this up to any top tourer of all time.

How are the Supple Vittesse 33mm? Looking at those vs. Shikoros in 33mm or 38mm for my VO. I want something that'll handle gravel fire roads--concerned that the Vittesse might be a little thin but I like the weight.

I've been riding more than I normally would this time of year in MN given the great weather. I really like the way the tires ride. Haven't had any issues with flats with a winter's worth of debris on the roads. I don't know how they'd hold up to gravel at this point though. I'm going to ride a little gravel with them at some point but I'd be leery if it was strictly a gravel bike.

As for the tire in my application, wishing I would have went with the 38 because I think I could have probably fit them in. But this is a nice size tire that also rolls well. Assuming no issues moving forward, I'll definitely be buying more.

My VO will see 90% pavement most likely. I would think 38's (particularly the EX) could handle gravel for 10% of the time, but then I wouldn't be able to run fenders in the winter. Dilemma! (First World Problems, I know...)

1987 Radac. The 2000/3000 designations had the same frame, so Radac will do. Aluminum frame.

Made some updates over the past couple weeks:

Nitto Noodle bar
Technomic Stem
Brooks Cambium C17
Fairweather for Traveler 700x28 supple tires (bought used for $10 from the recent Velo Orange garage sale).

It rides really nice, though there is an occasional shimmy in the steerer that I've had to adjust to. The first time it scared the beejezus out of me but now I know how it comes, how to avoid it, and how to react should it rear it's ugly head.

Neither. They are Forte Apollo wheels from Performance Bike. They came on my carbon Trek wunderbike (bought used) which I stripped down to build the RB-1 (have since sold the Trek frameset). The wheels are okay--pretty lightweight but narrow and they've never given me problems. They're 10-speed capable so no drivetrain upgrades for me.

OK … it does say BRIDGESTONE on the seat-tube decal and head badge (images below), doesn’t it? I haven’t found similar examples of either after quite a bit of online searching. One likely variant is that I bought it off-base on Okinawa in 1978. I have some original paperwork and user manual, but haven’t found any model number or name anywhere. Much of it is original; however, I never got used to the Italian leather saddle (stored here somewhere) and the rear wheel was stolen in the early ‘80s. It was some years later that I noticed the rim on the replacement wheel was more narrow than the front rim (original) - 27 x 1 1/4 instead of 27 x 1 1/4 - 1 3/8. I recently began looking for a proper replacement - nothing so far.
Other details: serial # C783516; Araya-rim/Shimano-hub wheel set (front and original rear); derailleurs - Shimano 60 (front), Shimano 500 (rear); Dia-Compe center-pull brakes; SunTour gear shifters; Sakae “Custom Road Champion” handle bars.

Ah ... found my receipt! It shows I bought it on 5 November 1977 (Showa 52 on Japanese calendar). The serial number should then mean it was built in March 1977. I can't read the Japanese, but perhaps the description indicates a Model SS-5B ... (?)

Bought this Bridgestone MB-2 a few weeks ago for £10:





a few conversions (drop bars, old weinneman brake levers, bar end shifters etc and it is starting to take shape (since taking this next photo, I've added 26x2" Schwalbe Marathon Supreme tyres and changed the saddle for an old Brooks B15 Champion narrow saddle.... I will add fenders and dynamo hub/lights just before winter. The Marathon Supreme's have allowed me to go approx 4-5km/hr faster and it's a much more pleasurable ride

the red paint is not a homemade paint job, they were made like this in the factory. Mine is handmade in Japan with lugs and is made of CroMo 4130 oversized tubing and has Araya RM-20 gold label wheels. The front sprockets are the BioPace

The less collectable ones had welded frames made in Taiwan
