Here is the after-
I had an extra 700c wheel set, I put on new bars, tape, hoods, head mount, bar end shifters, 8 speed rear cassette, new crank set, new chain, sks fenders, tires, and of course a Brooks B-17.

I know the handlebars are up high, but I like a more upright riding position.

bike looks awesome - i usually do not like how fenders look on bikes - but here the aesthetic is perfect - love the abbreviated look that they have - black w the rear flip - quite frankly - the bike looks bad@$$

I like it, looks like moonshine running bike. I would have used red cable housing and bartape, but it still looks nice

Thanks for all the comments. I took it for about a 10 mile spin last night. I can't believe how nice old steel bikes ride. After discovering older vintage bikes and fixing them up, it is hard to justify in my mind spending thousands of dollars on the latest and greatest. Don't get me wrong, there are some really nice new bikes out there, but for someone on a budget, one can almost get anything they need with limited funds with an updated vintage bicycle.

What model is that? I've had a Viva Sport, Super Strada, Gran Rally, and my current project, a Gran Turismo. Univega was responsible for some of the nicest mid price bikes in their day.

It is a Sport Tour. All that is left is to add a rear rack. I wish it had braze-ons the rear seat stays. Do you guys use c-clamps or is there something better?

Even though I tend to leave bikes that nice as is, I definitely like it. If I had more dough in my bike budget, though, things would be different! That's my size, too. Tall late '70's and '80's 6 speed bikes are my thing. Cheap, well made, standardized size components, and tall frames like that are floating around. I wish there were more of them!

For most people, cycling shouldn't be about spending money. It should be about getting out there and riding, and enjoying the experience. Plenty of amazing deals out there on older mid-level and better bikes. Knowing how to do your own repairs also really helps. Riding a "top shelf" bike from the '80s? Just avoid bike snobs...who wants to hang around with them anyway? :D Those guys are really annoying! :mad:

not c clamps you want P clips, ask you local bike shop they should have some.

Whoops, that's what I meant to say P clips not C clamps. Wow! I checked out your Flicker account. You have a lot of nice bikes. I am particularly fond of the Volpe. I would love to find one in my size.
