My New Rat Rod Project

There's not much to say other than posting the picture. It's an old Royce Union basement find that I got for $15 (I would have paid $50...I'm an idiot). The leopard print seat is freaking AWESOME. New tubes/tires, new bearings, new chain, and some lube and that should be all I do to it. Never seen another of this model and probably never will.

Fork's bent! :)

Yeah, nice. ;) I just love the patina on this thing and I wonder if it was actually cool back in the day...

Ape hanger handlbars and banana seats were quite popular in the 60's as were the shorter fenders. Looks like a good representation of that period.

I guess if it was cool to be poor or have cheap parents, and have all the Schwinn kids laugh at you.

Actually, I was born just after the musclebike period (when BMX bikes were becoming the fad), but I was riding a musclebike styled purple girls' Ross my dad had refurbed for me. Was I cool?

One thing's for sure - they pop a mean wheelie!

"Don't expect to win the Tour de France on that bike. I could have won it on that bike, but I am Eddy Merckx." :D

Western Auto used to sell a Huffy built Stingray knockoff that had a leopard seat kind of like that. Back in those days I really, really wanted one of those, your picture reminded me of it.

My first bike was similar to that but was black, had tiger striped seat and the grips had tiger heads on the ends.

Weird.

I had a total frankenbike like that. Only things I paid for were the handlebars, saddle, sissy bar & tires. Yeah, it was cool, in my world...

I picked up a Firestone like that this spring for really cheap. I,m kind of embarrassed about it but then I haven,t flipped it like I,d planned, either.
It,s kind of fun and it fits a surprising range of riders.

That will make a cool little bike & that seat is killer but I like my Gator Skin seat I found and put on my Franken musclebike to. I like cruising around on mine during the summer. I built mine out of a 60 or 70's Columbia Play bike 3spd that I rescued from a friends kid who found it in the trash, someday I will finish it and hook up the stick shifter but it's fun to ride as is.

I also picked this Raleigh Chopper reissue last summer but have yet to do anything with it.
