24mm Seatpost?
I picked this up today because it was "neat". There I go, buying shiz I don't need again... I don't hink I'm the only one guilty of this though.
Looks like a really nice seatpost, but I've never seen one so tiny. Are tiny seatposts a "French" thing?
Says "Made in France by JPR" as well as "08 83".

That's a JPR (J.P. Routens, a highly reagrded French racer from the past who went into the component business after retiring) seatpost used in the late 70's to early to mid 80's on some French bikes. My 1984 Peugeot PSV has one (26.4mm) as standard from the factory. I wasn't that well finished comapred to high line Italian and Japanese seatposts as the non polished (sand cast finish) clamping area shows and the minimal finishing work on the shaft. Still a good seapost as it has a good 2 bolt clamping system that made for fine micro adjusting on the angle of the saddle.
If you think that this French seatpost is small in diameter at 24mm, I have a Rubis (also French made) seatpost on my Vitus Carbone (original to the bike) that is only 23mm in diameter! I think it's the smallest diameter aluminum seatpost I have encountered so far.
JPR made lots of sizes smaller than the 27.2 standard diameter you see from other makers as they catered to the smaller metric sized tubed French bikes. So, if you are looking for that starnge small sized seatpost for your C&V bike, you might want to check out JPRs at the auction sites as they do come up regularly.

Funny thing is, I don't even have a French bike to use it on. I rarely come across them either, so my likeliness of using it is very slim I'd say.

Well, you could probably find a shim to make it fit a bigger seat tube. I'd be tempted to do that myself, just because the design is unusual and interesting.

I've got one of those on my Centurion, I had to sand it down from 26.8 to 26.6 (about 10 minutes with some 180 grit) and I really like it. It's not the lightest, but as said, it's interesting and different; and it works well, so why not?
