I just discovered I have a Windsor vintage bike. I think it is a carrera. It has suntour equip. It has the serial mnumber on the seat post vertically. I would like to restore it since I didn't pay attention to what it was and it needs care. if you can help me identify the year and its value I would appreciate it thanks in advance

Look through How Old Is My Bicycle? and you should come pretty darn close to actual vintage. Hope this is a help.

I have a Carrera Sport. I've had it since it was new, when I was a teenager. I like it a lot, but it's not a fancy bike. Mine has a straight-gauge CrMo frame, according to the salesman in 1980. Plain Carreras had straight-gauge Hi-Ten, I think. I think Super Carreras were double-butted.
Windsors were good value back in the day. My Carrera Sport was $250. A comparably equipped Fuji was more like $350. The place where they cut corners was on the frame and finish. Paint started chipping off under the BB the first week I had it. But it's lasted me 31 years of riding.
Anyway, pictures would help date yours. Also, look at date codes on the components.
You probably have SunTour derailleurs, Sansin/Sunshine hubs, SR crankset, DiaCompe brakes, GranCompe stem on it. See here to find out what your date codes translate to:
https://www.vintage-trek.com/component_dates.htm
My Windsor came with components with date codes as early as 1976. I bought it new in the summer of 1980, so I suppose it was built in '79 or early '80.
What's its value? Probably not much, unless maybe it has lots of chrome on it, and in good condition. I think plain Carreras had only a touch of chrome.
I've never seen that page randyjawa gave a link to, so thanks, randyjawa!
There's a good component date code reference there, too:

Identity of Windsor Bike
Thanks to everyone for your feedback. This is a bike that a friend gave me 3 yrs ago. The first year I rode the heck out of it since I did't have a drivers licence. I put it up for awhile now want to restore it. I don't really care about its resale value. I just like it. I'm 6'6" and 235 I can believe it held up I'll reply with bike details after a little more reseach Thanks

Merckx used Windsor's Money, sponsorship, for the hour ride,
in the Mexico City Velodrome..
but the paint was over an Italian Hand made frame..

It was a last minute deal, cash traded hands, Windsor decal slapped on the seat tube of a Molteni Orange Colnago. The riff it caused between Ernesto and Eddy was the reason that he rode (mainly) on De Rosa built bikes after that.

Eddy did ride Colnagos in '73, but that is when he started riding De Rosas more prominently (I think he had raced a few de Rosa frames in prior years). It's also possible those Colnagos from '73 were actually built the year before - Eddy was known to do that. There's no question that the Windsor deal started a rift between Ernesto and Eddy.

Right, the hour ride was between 72/73 seasons, so that makes sense.
And yes, "rift" not "riff".

Sounds like a Carrera Sport, but probably newer than mine, since the serial number on mine is #062882. I'm guessing the rear wheel (or at least hub) is not original, since it would probably have been Sanshin/Sunshine like the front. Do the rims have Windsor decals on them? Freewheel could be original, judging by model, date code and tooth counts.
But Columbus tubing? Is there a Columbus sticker? But no model-name sticker?? I assumed Acer-Mex (Windsor) made their own tubing, aside from the higher models (some or all of the ones with Cinelli-like lugs).
So I'm gonna guess '82-'84 Carrera Sport (or equivalent model).
