Looking for info on this older Bianchi Backstreet

I picked this bike up today to replace my sister's bike which was stolen (a beat up older Giant MTB). It needs quite a few little things fixed on it (tubes, broken spoke, brakes adjusted, grips, and the like) so I got it for $50. It looks like it has hardly been ridden and was soaked in chain lube/Teflon grease everywhere so it was fairly well protected from whatever elements it saw.

I'm just curious about what year this may be and what it probably cost new (to justify my purchase ) Any other info or links to sites would be appreciated! I don't know if this is even technically classic or vintage...

Have a look through How Old Is My Bike? and you should have a bit of fun determining vintage yourself.

Hope this is a help.
