Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra components

I recently bought a 1985 Corsa Extra that came with a bunch of misc. parts. Mavic cranks, Shimano 600 sti shifters, Ultegra rear d. Dura Ace front d etc.. The previous owner had changed out pretty much the original groupo. I was wondering if anyone knew what components these bikes originally came with? I want to restore this bike to be period specific. Thanks!

1985?

Could have had anything but more than likely had a version of Campys Record components. Nuovo Record, Super Record, New Dura Ace. They're all good.

+1 Any high-end mid-80s components would be appropriate. Merckxes (just like most other high-end frames) weren't sold as complete bikes, so it's pretty much whatever you want to use.

I have 6 speed Dura Ace 7400 on my mid 80's EM Professional and it is wicked! Suits the bike, works fantastic and is bomb proof.

Agreed.

I have 7400 on a Pogliaghi. Early not 90s and a fun bike.

I also have 7400 on a De Rosa Professional. Great bike.

Wicked is an apt term for both of these.

Yes, a fun example, but certainly an outlier.

Here is a pic of it stripped down a little.

It came with Shimano 600 sti shifters, an Ultregra rear d, and a Dura Ace front d. The crank is Mavic. The shifters in this pic are some Simplex retrofriction that I had laying around. The wheels are Campagnolo Ypsilon rims with Dura Ace hubs. The Bars are not shown in this pic but are Cinelli Giro D Italia. I will try and post more pics of it when its properly built up.

That's very nice. Love the partially chromed forks.
