Hey guys,

I need some of your expert advise here. I saw this ad on craigslist for a Japanese CONCORD Selecta 12 Freedom Deluxe. I'm a huge newbie to the bike scene and know very little. This looks like a nice bike, but its really old (made in the 80s) and $200 seems like way too much, I could almost get a brand new bike for that much. How much do you think I should offer? Again, it looks like a great bike and it looks like its in good condition....I plan on going to see it today. Thanks guys!

Concords were middle-of-the road bikes: Somewhat better than bike boom gaspipe bikes, but not high-end.
IIRC, their frames were made by Kuwahara, although I'm not familiar with the tubing brand. $200 sounds a bit high to me, but it mostly depends on the bike market where you're at.

Note that there's a European brand from this time called Concorde, which are high-end.

Looks like a $100 bike to me. If you're patient enough you can find a better bike for less money (unless you're in one of the expensive bike bubbles like New York or San Fran)

Pass. Low end bike from the boom, most likely hi ten steel frame.

No way can you get a decent new road bike for anything near $200. At that price, you are talking Xmart.

It does look good. I am also not familiar with that tubing sticker. I would probably shoot for around $150 for something like that in my market if it is cro-moly. About $100 if it's hi-tensile steel. If it is made by Kuwahara, they make nice frames.
