Fork Swap on a Varsity/Continental
Is it possible or practical to perform a fork swap on an electro-forged Schwinn?
As much as I enjoyed tarting up my Varsity with a 600 crank, DuraAce rear derailleur, modern wheels, and lighter bars, it just doesn't handle as well as my Schwinn Premis, Fuji Royale, or Falcon Merckx. Obviously the long wheelbase is one factor (that I can't change) so I'm wondering if a better fork might solve the problem. I see that Nashbar has a carbon threaded fork available for $70. I have no doubt that this will drop the front of my bike by up to an inch. What's that going to do to the handling and comfort? And what about the headset? It's already using the obscure Old School BMX style. Talk me into or out of this! |
