Cape Cod Ride In August

I would like to put a ride together if anyone would be interested. It will be just off Cape so going over the bridges on the weekend will not be an issue. I would like to ride through Wareham, Rochester, and Marion. I will guess at a 30-40 mile loop.

I can do it any weekend other than the 21-22. Let me know .

rootboy 07-12-11 05:20 PM

Hey Mike,
Those places aren't Cape Cod:p

Zaphod Beeblebrox 07-12-11 05:35 PM

^ I told a buddy I was going up to Cape Cod one time, he says "where", I said "Marion".

He said what you just said

How far from Boston is this? I'd possibly be in.

Capecodder 07-12-11 05:45 PM

It's about a 45 minute ride from Boston.

Also, I could make the ride shorter or longer whatever everyone wants.

Capecodder 07-12-11 05:49 PM

Hey Scott,

I know it's not really Cape Cod, but who ever heard of Marion?

rootboy 07-12-11 06:28 PM

Good point. Doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

I might be able to make that one. I have a Grand Cherokee that can haul 4 bikes, 4 riders, bags, and anything that can be tied down to a roof.

Wouldn't be easy for me, but I'd consider it if I could mooch a ride from someone in NJ. If I did, it would have to be more than 35 miles on the bike, though.

If we can plan for Saturday August 6, would be the only weekend day I could ride. I take my daughter to college later in the month.

I think BF member Larry Tate's in-laws live in Marion. He refers to it as "The Cape." I always ask "Which one?"

Right on, let's not leave Cape Ann to the seagulls.

August might be bad for me, although I'll know later this month. Sounds like a good ride tho, I'm not too familiar with that part of the "Original Cape", pre 1909.

A bit too late for June: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_RiJsG3GZw

August gets a bit tight for me as we're in Maine Aug 13-27. That first weekend is likely the best possibility for me.

Not by bike I think, at least not at the speeds I go.

August is a tough month. I have 12 days of business travel.

tugrul 07-13-11 02:09 PM

Any ferry options to do the length of Cape Cod?

I found a Plymouth to Provincetown one, but it's late morning (arrives 11:30am in Provincetown), and it's about an 80 mile trip back.

That is the Pan Mass Challenge weekend. Could get a bit hairy. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/75550

I might be able to make this one if it doesn't coincide with a show I have to play. Which cape, Good Hope or Horn? Oh, that cape. Got it.

Ouch!

(My August is filling up. And it's rushing up at us really fast.)

Capecodder 07-20-11 04:13 AM

It does not look like a good month for anyone?

What about September, would that work for anyone?

pastorbobnlnh 07-20-11 04:50 AM

By that point I'll be child free for the first time in almost 19 years (she will be in college). If you wanted to try for a Labor Day ride, I might be able to talk Mrs. PB into heading for Cape Cod on Sunday (after worship) and we would stay over until Tuesday. That would be my best day.

ScottRyder 07-20-11 06:15 AM

September is much better for me, plus the weather can be nicer and the roads a bit quieter.

Scott

nlerner 07-20-11 06:18 AM

Other than Sunday, Sept. 25, the day of the Hub on Wheels ride, Sept. is pretty wide open for me.

September works better for me as well. And the Cape is nicer off-season, but still not what it used to be (right, Scott?).
How about making it a true Cape Cod ride up the rail trail. 44 miles of MUP from Dennis to South Wellfleet and back, lots of possibilities for lunch/snacks, and not one hill in sight!

Capecodder 07-20-11 02:26 PM

OK..... Lets do this sometime in September then. I have the every weekend open as of now, so I will leave it up to everyone as to which weekend will work best. The Dennis to Wellfleet trip sounds good to me if everyone else agrees.

Beach Comber 07-20-11 02:39 PM

The first two weekends - one being Labor Day, the other a local bike show - are out for me. Any other is fine.

All times are GMT -6. The time now is 10:48 PM.
