A UE-8. Around a 73-75. Looks in excellent shape. Complete with the original ventolux pump.

Agreed.....have fun with it!

Someone is asking 150 for it, I think Im gonna check it out tomorrow. Looks pretty good. Hope it is still there. Thanks

If its all original, it will be a relatively heavy bike with steel everything, including the wheels. The wheels will have a rough pattern along the breaking surface which causes the brakes to squeal. If the rims are smooth, then they've been replaced.

Look for any sign of cracking on the plastic part of the shift levers.

Also look for pitting, especially on the racks. Rust can be removed, but if it was bad, it will still leave pitting behind.

Personally, I think $150 is an OK price for that bike in clean, original condition, and ready to ride. Especially with the pump. But I have a soft spot fot UE-8s.

i dont really have anything like it. It looks like itd be fun to ride on a rainy night. well see. ill try to talk him down, depending...

The pump is worth some bucks if it's not dented.

Didnt get up to see it today, think I'm gonna pass. Gotta get rid of some others first I think. Here is the Craigslist link:

Still has a leather saddle on it, too.

lostarchitect 07-13-11 04:50 PM

That thing would probably cost twice that in NYC. Grr.

Beach Comber 07-13-11 06:45 PM

Wish something like that would pop up here. It may be a tad bit on the heavy side, but a UE-8 sure is a pleasant ride.

I'd describe that more as causing them to sing rather than squeal. Actually, they hum, since there aren't any words. When MAFAC brakes squeal they squeal, steel or not!

Be a lot more fun on a dry night with steel wheels. Safer too.
