Campy Crank Bolt Threading
Campy Crank Bolt Threading
Re: '70s - '80s Campy crank bolt threading, is there anything special about the threading, or will any '70s-'80s steel crank bolt work? Do Campy spindle/bolts use a standard size? Or is it the special Italian threading? Thanks |
In my experience, crank bolts are pretty standard, except the bolt head size. Avoid the 16 mm ones!

There are no Italian threaded bolts.

too bad I am not at home, I have a few bolts I would send you. I am huge fan of single key releases or 'self extractors' and seldom use/reuse cranks bolts. |

Note that the bolts can also be had with eithor 14mm or 15mm heads. If you use the 14mm heads, most any socket wrench can be used to remove the bolt, 15mm heads require a thinwall socket. |
14 or 15 isn't too bad, 16 can be a PITA. I like the modern allen-headed ones, though they're usually ugly; I wish they'd make a nice shiny chromed one that looks like a dustcap.

Titanium bolts can be polished to look almost like chrome.
