Ebay, places you don't even bother with
so i'm gonna be listing some stuff on ebay soon, just wondering what places you guys don't usually ship to, usually i do shipping to canada and USA only, but i'm gonna give international a try.
I know people don't really ship to Italy and malaysia, and a few other countries (nigeria of course ahahaha like i don't get enough spam from those guys). any suggestions if you guys can give me a heads up |
I have had good luck with Korea, Japan, Mexico, Canada, the lower 48, an most of western Europe. The only problems I have had with Italy is that it always seems to cost twice as much as it should to send anything there. Austrailia also seems unnecissarily expensive. I have not shiped stuff to former Soviet block countries/USSR, but I have gotten things from them without problem.
I tend to avoid southeast Asia, but have not had a bad experience, just a bad feeling about it. |

Get full shipping costs paid in full before shipping. I got screwed by a guy in Canada who insisted on having me ship it second day air, and getting it in the mail ASAP. His feedback was flawless. I paid the extra $24 in shipping costs, which he never ended up paying me for. The item sold for $10 + $10 shipping. I ended up paying $4 to get rid of the item. To make matters worse, I went on a 4 month tour, came home, and had negative feedback from the guy, stating the item was "not functional". I paid $4 to get negative feedback for a year. Neat. My profile which was 100% positive, with very active selling and buying since 2001 became tainted over this ridiculous deal.
Moral of the story: trusting people can hurt you. Cover your saddle. |
I ship anywhere and everywhere without worry. Yet to get burned by overseas people only "honest americans". I love Ebay and have no problem paying them for there marketing and the market they open me up to. If your honest and do everything correctly the chances of getting burned are low, whenever something bad happens I just consider the cost of doing business.

I gave up on ebay (again) I lost money last time I listed something.
I agree with Blaise_f get your shipping in full first. I had a looker in the UK ask about shipping to there and I said OK. then he apparently used a differetn screenname to when he bid. that was also the first and last time I use the option to send an invoice, which I sent and had the item wrapped and ready to go before I discovered the buyer was in the UK. so needless to say I lost a few scheckles on that deal. |
Ebay, for all of its faults, and ridiculous fees, allows me to get value out of oddball thrift store and garage sale finds. Example, one of the items I sold last week was a set of Tony Robbins motivational CDs. Bought them at a garage sale for $4, sold them for $60. I sold a pair of blue jeans to a guy in Japan once for $100 (plus $42 shipping).

I can't say ive had a bad experience selling, just a few bad for buying, but at over 400 transactions I suppose some of them are bound to be sour. I don't sell too much but am likely gonna do a selling round soon to raise some cash for a new frameset purchase down the road. The buy/sell trade forum here is ok, but only really useful if you have hens teeth type stuff which I dont have a lot of.

I'll ship anywhere. I don't list an international shipping quote because it takes too much time to determine. I also insist international shipping go registered mail. It adds an additional $12 to the shipping cost but requires a signature. If a buyer doesn't pay the shipping price, (I add an additional 15% to cover ebay/paypal fees), I report them for nonpayment and go to a second chance offer.
I have blocked only one seller. I use many high-resolution web-hosting images in my listings. Every square inch is covered several times from several angle. I don't use words like good, or great or other subjective BS. I let the pictures do the talking. I had one guy ask me about the condition of a cassette I was selling. I relied politely, "Exactly like the 12 high resolution photos show." He replies, "Yeah, but what is the condition?" Needless to say, I blocked that idiot before his reply. |

+1. There are some things that I need to put on there to sell. I have bought a half dozen bikes to flip with the Concor Profil white saddles. Nobody on local CL will pay $100 for one even in pristine condition. People in Asia and Austrailia will do so at $100 BIN usually in a day or less.
