What Do I have here?
 

Picked up this exceptionally nice Traveler mixte recently in a 2 bike deal and was getting ready to do the clean/lube thing when I noticed the seat tube sticker said, “4130 Double Butted Main Tubes, Frame built in America.” Head badge stamped 0925 (92nd day of 1985?), serial # under bottom bracket SCxxxxxx (below that stamped 843). Suntour AR drs, , Sugino crank, Schwinn Approved (Japan) center pulls, wheels “Schwinn Approved Made in France.”

I know about the cro mol main tubes thing, but I thought all middle/low end Schwinn road bikes by 1985 had frames from Taiwan or Japan. Any info appreciated. Thanx.

Schwinn maintained a factory in Greenville Mississippi, where they built many of their lower end models. Strictly assembly. Parts were all sourced from asia.

nice looking lady's bike. the Schwinn experts will be along soon but I do believe alot of the bikes were still made here. maybe in Alabama rather then Chicago though.

I do not mean to sound picky but while most people would call that a Mixte it is not a true Mixte since it has a silgle standard size tube going from the headtube to the seattube.

Nice bike, kind of a hybrid take on the mixte....
Given the modern components compared to many mixte frames, it's got a lot of potential.
Those frames are fairly hot right now in fixie-girlfriend land.

Wow....that was quick! No girlfriends here, I'm too ugly. Just have the woman I've been married to for 40 years and she already has a Shogun 200 real mixte (twin tubes going from the head to the seat tube). I've always liked the mixte look but at a little over 6 feet tall, they're all too small. Thanks all for the info.
