Question RE: Centurion Pro Tour....
When did Centurion switch from center pulls to cantilevers? The bike was produced from 1976-1984? I knew that at one time they were considered "real" touring bikes-Still true today?:)

The Pro Tour is an excellent touring bike, but I don't know when they switched. The Semi-Pro and Pro Tour were both pretty nice.
I'm not all that familiar with them, but some members here are, and I hope they chime in. |
My 1984 Elite GT touring bike also has cantis.

My '83 was equipped with canti's.

The 79' that I briefly had was center pull, but odd center pull. They were attached like cantis.
Beautiful bike...loved the pin striping and detail. |
My favorite Pro Tours are the ones from the late 70s. Brazed on 610 centerpulls, chromed long point lugs, chromed seat stay caps and gorgeous pin striping. Supre cool bikes.

Pics---It happened! 56 cm my size and all........Just sitting there on Cl calling my name...It turns out I bought a vintage single fin surfboard from the same guy 4 years ago. An older gentleman who neither surfs nor rides but is a avid "garage sale hunter He going to call me when he gets nice bikes/boards before CL get em!" I need Dia-compe gum lever covers and retro-tape?

That's the 1979, I believe. My 1977 does have most of the same details and components, but only a double crank and none of the chrome or pin-striping.
It was probably around 1980 that they switched to cantilevers. There was a fantastic model year where most of the details were the same except the canti change. Great bikes in either configuration, though! I'll never sell mine. |

In my experience the Cane Creek gum levers are a direct replacement for Dia-Compe. Niagra Cycle is where I got mine for $7-8 Speaking of CL coincidences, I believe I looked at a Holland Ti bike you were selling a few weeks ago. I recognize the bike holder from your photo's. I ended up buying a steel Eddy Merckx instead. |
