My Toes Are Toast
 

Here's the problem. I've got a Centurion with Shimano 105 pedals with toe clips, the hard plastic kind that came on the pedals that came to a point in the front. These clips are brutal. They clamp down hard on the top of your toes and are painful to ride. Has anyone ever tried reshaping these things? I was thinking of putting them in some boiling water to see if they could be reshaped, at the very least it would give some measure of solace to dole out a dose of pain to them as they have to me.

:lol: I like your style. Maybe a heat gun would be a suitable tool. No idea which would be better - Just thought I'd throw it in there in case you hadn't thought of it and it might be better.

I like this style best. It's an improvement over the old Christophe style because they don't squash my toes.

Are you wearing cleated bicycle shoes? Those pedals are meant to be ridden with cleats. Your toes should not really be in hard contact with the cages if you are wearing proper shoes and have the right size cage.

If you are riding in street shoes, get a different pedal.

@noglider, those cleats will not work on Shimano 105 clipped pedals.

I got some MKS "deep" clips from Velo Orange, they're designed for bulkier street shoes and don't pinch me.

You may be able to get them elsewhere cheaper.

I like them. Use to ride fixed with them even, but that may just be the shoes.

I stand corrected. I'm not familiar with these pedals.

The old Shimano toe clips came in sizes. Be sure to get XL if they are too tight. The mediums were really, really small.

I've had metal MKS clips on my bicycles for a long time. Maybe they're worth trying! No toe pinching.

I would agree with the heat gun option. You have much better control of heating just the area of the clip you want to modify.

OFG, yes the pedals only accept that specific clip with a triangular 3 screw mount. I don't get the cleats with cages thing, that's new to me. If you had cleats, why would you need cages? Not being confrontational, it just doesn't make sense to me.

You can use any slotted cleat with this type pedal. The specific cleat is not necessary. You have been told wrong, or made a poor assumption.

Poor assumption, yes. Mine are like this. I see now how the cleat is slotted and merely positioned the foot rather than clipping in.

I have some NOS Shimano cleats, they ain't cheap, though ;)
