Rehabbers Take Note, One Day Sale At Nashbar Today

Nashbar has a 20% off sale today. If you catch something ALREADY on sale, the extra 20% can make it a pretty good deal.

A couple of examples:

Bar tape, regular $9.99 (does anyone pay "regular" price at Nashbar?), on sale for $4.99. Take another 20% off, and that is $3.99, which is as low as I have seen it at Nashbar. I have used this bar tape for several years, and tend to load up when it is cheap, like now.

SIS cable set, regular $5.99, on sale for $1.99. Take another 20% off, and that is $1.60, which is pretty cheap for a cable, SIS housing with two end caps.

10 speed Microshift STI set, regular $219.99, on sale for $129.99. Take 20% off, and you are down to $104. That is a can't be beat deal on 10 speed STI IMHO.

Crown Race setting tool, regular $59.99, on sale for $29.99, take 20% off, and it is $23.99. Not as good as the deal a couple of weeks ago, but if you missed it, a decent deal.

Nashbar branded multi-tool, regular $9.99, on sale for $4.99, take 20% off that, and you are down to $3.99. That is as cheap as I have seen those. I like to give newbie bike buyers a multitool.

Park Truing Stand, regular $209.99, on sale for $188.95, take 20% off that, and you are down to $152.xx. Thats the cheapest I have seen the Park truing stand (watch out for shipping charge).

The key with a sale like this at Nashbar, is that you really need to find something already on sale, to get the price really low.

$50 minimum applies, plus shipping. Some brands are not available for the sale, and I did not test all the deals above (the Parks stand might not be eligible). I'm going to order several of these items, I'll update it then... YMMV.

If only I hadn't just dropped a $175 at the Vet on the pooch (worth every penny, btw) I'd be owning a set of the microshift shifters. Best deal ever.

Panracer Paselas are $14.99 less 20%, $11.99. They don't get any cheaper than that.

I wish there was a Canadian equivalent to Nashbar...

Doubling the shipping price hurts the deal a little, not to mention possible customs fees.

It worked for me. I bought the crown race tool, the bar tape, and the multi-tool. All Nashbar branded stuff.

Look closer at your screen capture. I see 20% off: $16.99. Shipping and sales tax wipes it out, but at least it offsets it (order tomorrow, and you will have no offset).

Thats a real nice deal on the Paselas!

Thanks for the heads up Bill. Perhaps I'll buy some things in an attempt to manifest the ownership of a bike I am after.

That's the way I do it. Buy everything you need to finish the project before you even have the frame. It's worked out for me. My wife's not a fan of my methods, but I'm still married so. . .

I just did that with a tape recorder. All of the parts are here, but I'm still waiting for the machine.

I forgot Nashbar carried Brooks too. $72 for a B17, my click finger got away from me and I added it to my cart. I am so weak when it comes to a deal.

Invaluable advice for us newbie builders/rehabbers. Especially those of us who are married....

My current line is, "well, heck, this isn't the right part/color/application, guess I need to return/or sell it on ebay"......but then it ends up as a resident in my 'new' parts box....imagine that?

I got an email about the nashbar sale a couple days ago, and would be all over it if I didn't have a vacation with the wife coming up.

(Oh wait, maybe I could order it now and get it to be shipped here while we're on vacation..... )

An update, given limited quantities on some of these items... if you put one in your cart and it sells out afterwards, it makes the check out produce an error. At least this is my theory. I just tracked it down by looking at the price in the error and matching that price with one of my items.

The bike I'm trying to manifest is neither classic nor vintage. Sorry people.

Blame it on all the people from this site currently trying to buy stuff from Nashbar

Doesn't matter. It's a bike, and you're trying to manifest it by any means possible.

The SKS 35mm commuter fenders (black only) are a really nice deal for $20 ($25 less 20%). BTW, the fenders, a pair of Paselas and some bar tape would make the $50 minimum. It is also a nice combination. They also have a "buy 3 & get the 4th free" deal going on with some of their inner tubes. It works out to about $2.10/tube to $2.40/tube.

Got the bar tape, 2 Pasela's for the Motobecane mixte and some shifter cables w/housing for $1.99. Didn't go over the $50 so the 20% didn't apply, but heck, that's still a good deal and I can tell my frugal wife I cut the expenses over what I would have paid at the lbs by 60% or so. The tires would have been minimum of $25, bar tape $15 or so and they charge $6 for shifter cable without housing. Haven't tried Paselas before so I'm looking forward to that.

You know you'd better be careful when you explain that 600 tricolor crankset as "a part for a bike,...it's used" and it's the FIRST part....

I'll just say something like......'I don't think the seller ever even used this, and he only wanted $25 for it......I'm not even sure what it's used for on my bikes....but it was such a deal! Actually, I think it might be some sort of Shimano decorative wall hanging....mind if I put it over the piano? (As she shrieks and points toward the garage)......'

(just hope she doesn't get to the shipping box before I do......)

outsmarting the wife.

For those of you who also have to outsmart your wives... I picked this up awhile back and it has worked out GREAT. I even have a bunch of friends around here doing it.

When the wife sends you to the store to get something, gladly agree to do it and head on out. Pick up that gallon of milk, go to pay, select cash back, get a $20, stick it in your secret bike fund pocket in the wallet and head on home... Before you know it you'll have $120 in the wallet and can pounce on those irresistible craigslist deals.

Last night I paid my deposit on my new team kit with the secret bike funds... so nice to not have to justify the whole $160 at once to pay for spandex.

Hope your wife doesn't use the internet.

Myself, I am from the Miami Jim school, bikes pay for bikes. Wife knows I have done well enough over the years that she doesn't sweat me buying stuff. Heck, anymore, she sells half of my bikes.
