I visited my parents in western Kentucky this weekend. They have so many birds hanging out in the backyard; lots of hummingbirds. When I went to load up my car and leave, I found a dead hummingbird in the back. It must've flown in the cracked window. I thought the juxtaposition of my dad's big hand and this small bird was interesting.

wow thats actually really cool. Those things are always in my parents back yard but I've never seen one without its wings going 10,000 miles an hour.

Can you make out it's tongue? It is sticking out of it's beak and is almost transparent. The feathers were remarkably shiny and multi-faceted. The bird looked like a fishing lure.

I hope I see a live hummingbird one day. I still haven't.

Thanks! No, no regrets except that when I came back later, with a better camera, they were gone.
Seriously, yes, those are snowy egrets. We have two kinds of birds that look like that, in the wetlands here; big tall ones, and smaller ones. This group contained both; so I guess they might be adult and juvenile? I'm not the bird expert in my family.

Pat's Freedom Party. Pat rides with us on the Sunday Night Pub Crawl. This week his divorce was final so the ride was in dedication/celebration of that. We had about 4 dozen riders. Here's a bunch of us on the patio at the T&P Tavern.

There was someone doing charity rides in Ohio who pulled a grey in a trailer - probably just slept all day anyway

Guess I need to start bringing a camera on rides in my jersey. The other day I was about 10ft from a pair of fawns on the trail; at the moment I dragged the camera out of my seat bag they decided to take off...

Rode to Mom's after work. She's 81 year old, and needs all the help she can get. I watered trees and flowers and filled bird feeders--she loves to watch the birds.
Here's the townie bike I rode. It has a few extra spokes!

I'm a runner in addition to cycling and one time on one of my runs I saw a smashed hummingbird on the sidewalk, about eight miles later on my way back I came upon a baby/fledgling hummingbird trying to fly for the first time. I picked it up and tried to help it. It was making little chirping sounds and freaking out, but it was trying to fly right into the street and couldn't fly yet. I tried to help it by tossing it in the air a couple times but it was just flying onto the busy road with traffic going by like crazy; this is Los Angeles. So I tossed it the other way into the veterans grave yard and went on my way. But is was really cool holding a live humming bird. I have also had a humming bird build a nest in a small plant outside my apartment door. I could walk right up to it and take pictures if I wasn't threatening because it would not get off the egg unless absolutely necessary. Here's a couple pics. PICT0183.jpgPICT0177.jpg

is that the bridge rt off 322 between downingtown and west Chester on harmony hill rd?
That's where I grew up! I put my kayak in that creek right at that bridge and rode to Delaware once. I also dropped a friend off the back of my motorcycle exiting that bridge too fast. He wasn't happy about that.

Put on a brand new 122bcd 38t ring on the Stronglight 104 crankset. That'll make the 13-21 in the rear a little more palatable. Yes, the dust caps are on the crank - this was the quick after install photo.

From today's commute, another wonderful ride .
Mist rising on Antrim Lake:

Two ladies taking a break:

View of downtown Columbus, Ohio from the confluence of the Olentangy and Scioto rivers:

Monument commemorating the first log cabin built in Columbus by John Brickell--he was 16 when he built it! It's a stone's throw from where I work.
