Sixty Fiver: C'mon, don't be a tease - what's the story behind both the rear DOs breaking?

WhatWolf: Neat picture! I don't think I've seen that particular angle before

I don't think that's breakage. It's disassembly for some sort of modification project, such as an xtracycle kit.

The drive side dropout had broken and both were getting replaced, I cut them thrice to split them as this makes removing them easier and safer.

The bike is a Miyata 1000 that belongs to my friend.

Thanks. I put on those cheap plastic chrome bar plugs in as a temporary measure until I got orange anodized ones, but now I kind of like them. So shiny! And there's a lot of silver on this bike.

^ If you end up finding some orange-anodized plugs, please let me know the source; I'd love a pair for the Davidson!

Storm rolling in, last night while working at the St Pete Bike CoOp, Behind the St Pete Shuffleboard Club, Downtown (currently open Wednesday evenings 6-9). High winds, lots of rain and HEAVY lightening! Yes...it WAS still wet heading home...my Vittoria Zaffiro tires kept a good grip in the wet, except for a little on road stripes and crosswalks.

It rained a little last night.

Taughannock falls. Normally, at this time of year, there's just a trickle going over. Notsomuch this year.

I heard a farm here in Tompkins county got more than 4.5" last night alone.

Seen right around the corner from our delightful hotel in Prague.

Yours truly with the city in the background.

My first time there, but I would return on a moment's notice.

An absolute must visit.

Looking down Quimby Road (after riding up Mount Hamilton yet again), into Silicon Valley, or the Santa Clara Valley depending on your preference.

I believe they rode up the road during the last Tour De California.

yes. Quimby road has 18% switchbacks. Do a google search for more info, it gets mentioned a lot on the net.

BTW, i was riding this (this pic is from yesterday)

which features a front DP caliper conversion. That kind of conversation where you use a rear caliper on the front, then put the nut inside of the fork steerer. This mod is OK for normal use but it made me nervous coming down a mountain. The caliper has just one contact point with the fork instead of two, and I was picturing it snapping off and going into the front wheel the entire ride down.

I can handle getting thrown from my bike onto the road and braking a collarbone, but I'm not sure I could recover from being thrown over a cliff off the side of a mountain. I'm going to change the brakes out.

I was wondering the same Piney, if such a set up would be safe. I had this issue with a fork not drilled for recessed nuts.

In the end I took it to a machine shop to drill the fork out, so the bike could handle my Merckxian powers.

Works out good for me, I get cool birthday gifts from her, like some Misfits shoelaces to go in the birthday riding shoes my wife bought me... my daughter and I quickly "decorated" them.

I always thought punk and bikes went together, but as I grew up realized that people take themselves and their cycling to seriously. As a young man in south Florida the ramps were alive with the sound of NOFX the Decendents, Social D etc. I think Fat Wreck and Epitaph own the soundtrack of my life. My wife is into Hip Hop but my daughter loves Rancid and Green Day they are more musical to her ear and have a cool beat so she can sing along. I'm 36 now have adult responsibilities but I feel more and more punk as I get older there is so much wrong that could be fixed if people just gave a damn..I feel like Steve Ignorant my feeling haven't changed but the impact of but it doesn't have the same impact when a slightly pudgy family man says or implies FU than it does when the same guy had more muscles and more attitude.

but yea I still still sing this on my way to work everyday
