Wow! That is a head turner of a bike. If some of the specifics of it are listed somewhere would love to see the link.

Thanks! Here is the original thread, but I have done a version 2.0 build and moved the wheelset to another bike, changed the drivetrain, etc. I'll take proper pics and start a thread sometime soon.

Here are some pics I took on a ride through the neighborhood with my wife. We received a storm with damaging winds again two weeks ago. There were enormous trees down (many on houses) throughout my neighborhood. We suffered no damage and, strangely, didn't even lose power.

Beautiful overcast day in the 70s, took Bertha (the Swiss Hybrid) out for a spin to the local fish hatchery.

Cheers,
Chris

took the easy way out for my first levers, used Super Record drilled levers as a starting point

all hand cut, filed, sanded and polished. probably spent 3 hours drilling, cutting and filing and another 2 hours sanding and polishing. i could probably cut that polishing time in half but i wanted a super duper mirror finish. these are currently for sale somewhere ;)

^ It's about time - I was wondering when you were going to show off your newly-acquired skillz!

A superb first-effort; I think I had better retire my Dremel now.

Ahhh yes it is one of the rare and elusive American Flyer branded cycles. There is little to no information about them on the internets.

Wow, it hurts to see that image! How I wished I had listened to my father when he advised me to lock up my Varsity 40 years ago. The kid offering to rake leaves returned that night, and took it.

Rode the same 80 miles Mt Rainier/Paradise mountain loop again last Saturday. What can I say, I love the pain.

Gees, another Palouse area photo. Love harvest time with the exception of having to crawl under the truck and make sure there was no tinder dry stubble resting on the exhaust pipes. Late harvest this year from what I hear.

Would you rather go back to the cat pictures? LOL Aside from the sinus headaches I'll sometimes get from all the dust in the air it really is a good time to go cycling out here. Ironic you should mention making sure the truck doesn't start a fire.

Ok it wasn't started by a truck, rather lightning. News reports here and here. More lightning here:

And when one of those fires start you'll never have a better white knuckle experience than riding with a farmer in a work truck on a two lane dirt path at 60 mph as all neighbors rush to help put the fire out and prevent it from spreading to their fields. Thanks for the photos.

The bike cave was starting to look chaotic with acquisitions and flips in disarray.
I had to tackle it over the weekend, even with a bad shoulder. I got all of it off the floor by hanging them with hooks and lengths of conduit. N+1 Wife Threat Level has been reduced back to yellow status. ;)

Recently I had seen plans for a homemade bike rack made from PVC pipe and connectors, and thought it was a neat idea, but one that I would probably never do. Then tonight, I was riding home from work, I saw a bunch of PVC pipes being thrown out, along with a bunch of elbows and tees! I thought, How can I pass this up? It was an omen. The only question was how to get them home... surely they'd be gone if I came bike with my bike trailer. So, I kicked my brain cells into high gear and figured I'd have to MacGyver something. Luckily I had my bungee net and another bungee cord in my saddlebag!

20 lbs of PVC pipe (sorry for the crappy cell phone pics):

http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6196/...e56ea946_b.jpg

But the bungee rigging worked fine, as the precarious load didn't shift at all in the 2.5 mile ride home:

The fittings all fit in the saddlebag:

Speaking of racks and frame holders, Frank the Welder has some cool systems in his shop. This one holds the frame using the head tube.

This one has hooks parallel to the floor to hold the rear frame triangle.
